The kouign-Aman and croissants were the very best pastry I have ever had from Starter Bakery. I am from Eugene Oregon and would drive back down to Berkley/Oakland area for this pastry any day! The bread is amazing as well... Well done Starter Bakery! B"

Starter Bakery offers incredible food in a simple, unfussy setting that has made a strong impression on many visitors. One customer almost left because of the wait but was glad they stayed, calling the experience really good and worth coming back for. At the Albany location, the staff was friendly, the place was very clean, and the pastries were delicious. A visitor who had baked goods via Philz noted that the retail locations have a bigger offering, with chocolate babka and croissant among the favorites. Another customer ordered the mini loaf cocoa banana and a peppermint cookie, describing both as moist, soft, rich in flavor, and so delicious. One fan pleaded for the return of the matcha latte, calling it simply the best in town. Not every visit was perfect: one customer found the croissants too sweet and too flaky, with chocolate that was too sweet, though they planned to try the bread next time. Another noted that the staff at the Solano location was downright surly, though the baked goods and coffee are delicious.
