My husband stopped in for lunch today and got a bunch of food for us to try we have seen it before and said many times that we wanted to try it because you can smell it driving by and it smells amazing and he finally had the time. Ay Papa Que Rico in Bakersfield is the real deal. The chicken is nice and juicy, moist, and flavorful all the way to the bone. Everything is cooked in beef tallow—no seed oils at all. The grilled chicken, thin cut short ribs, fried yuca, plantains, rice, beans, empanadas, homemade meat-filled potato balls, and ropa vieja are all absolutely delicious. The plantains are glorious and caramelized. The portions are super abundant—everyone eats well and has plenty to take home. The presentation is beautiful. This food takes people back to their youth with authentic ethnic food. It is a bit expensive, but so worth it. This spot is highly recommended for all catering needs. If you want real Cuban flavor cooked the right way, this is the spot. People will be coming back again when in Bakersfield and will be requesting this wonderful food for future parties.
