LaVal's is a Berkeley institution and has been a fixture in North Berkeley for decades. Their specialty is pizza though they also have pastas and sandwiches. I recommend sticking with the pizza (past meals of calzone and eggplant sandwich were just mediocre). One of the worst pizzas I have ever had! Very bland and tasteless. This location is at the heart of UCB campus so they mostly cater to students.. however their prices are not cheap. One full star for having the pizza ready and answering the phone promptly. None of the employees who handled the food wore gloves. The person who answered the phone, took my payment, and he also sliced my pizza... No hygiene or Covid safety measures in a middle of a deadly pandemic!

La Val's is somewhat hidden on Northside and I didn't even know it existed until some friends took me here. I decided to play it safe and try the Chicken Alfredo. Overall, the dish was pretty average in comparison to the alternatives around Berkeley. The pasta was housemade and the sauce was creamy with savory undertones.
