We discovered Uncommon Grounds at our favorite restaurant on our wedding anniversary many years ago and have been brewing their coffee beans ever since (perhaps 15 years?) and simply love the freshness, flavor and depth of their different coffees.Especially enamored by their decaf coffee as well. We get compliments from all of our guests, every time, without fail.:)

They also go by the name Uncommon Grounds. It's a local Berkeley roaster. The coffee selection is very good. The prices are also very reasonable. The people are very nice and friendly. They also have a dog, which is cool.

the best coffee I've ever had. The Berkley Blend is a rich, lively coffee.

Place is too impersonal.

Perfect cappuccino. The ambiance is quite spare.

Passing through Berkeley and glad we chose this spot for a late breakfast! It has a great coffeehouse vibe and is a nice place to hang out. Food was great (we had the veggie breakfast burrito and a breakfast bagel). Can't speak for the coffee because we had tea instead. Service was a little slow but didn't mind as it's a pleasant place to wait. Cute patio area and plenty of parking too. Definitely recommend!

Awesome place, bet coffee and breakfast sandwiches in Berkeley. A true gem hidden away down on 7th.

The coffee is good. That is all I have. The service was terrible. We had to repeat ourselves several times just to get a normal coffee. There was an option on the menu to make the regular drip coffee an au latte, but apparently they don't do that. I order some food as well and he completely forgot about it. I can understand if he was busy, but we were 2 of 3 people in the cafe. Doubt I will be back.

This place has REALLY gone downhill. They have eliminated most of the items from the menu except for the breakfast menu, raised prices, and have nothing but soda in the chilled beverages cooler. Also, they are frequently running out of the food items to make what remains on the menu. Three weeks ago, no bacon. Then, no provolone cheese (they only offer three choices). Twice now I've come in and the mini grill they use was broken, so cant make breakfast sandwiches. The other day - they were out of eggs.... I am sorry but to the owners - why bother? If you aren't even going to pretend to make an effort to manage your café correctly, why bother? I work close to here and seems as though I am the last guy at the company trying to frequent this business, everyone else has given up and I notice there is hardly anyone in the place anymore. It's sad because this used to be a nice little spot when it was properly managed.

This cafe is my favorite in the area. They have the kindest staff, and the best breakfast sandwiches, chai, and coffee in South Berkeley. It's also the best place to get work done, as the wifi is speedy and there's a ton of space to spread out. I've seen other reviews about how the staff didn't understand the order, and lacked English skills. I have to say that watching one of their staff nail his English in a very short amount of time has been one of the most impressive things I've seen in awhile. AND, this guy makes the best coffee in the house. He's also extremely kind and never has any issue understanding what I'm asking for. He's doing a fantastic job, and I go to the cafe just to see him. This place is the best! What a gem to have in my neighborhood.

Cozy spot to grab a coffee and relax. The barista was very friendly and accommodating. I was tired and just needed a place to sit and charge my phone while sipping on a drink, this place was perfect. It's a little hidden and hard to find but I recommend this gem of a coffee shop. Also has outdoor seating

Great atmosphere, no frills, cheap, and coffee that is as delicious as it is unpretentious. Good study spot. Major bonus points for working to provide employment with refugee population. Tip: it is FREEZING in here. Bring coats/scarves/hats!

I like the interior of this cafe. Very spacious, great place to enjoy free wi-fi and get some work done. Good atmosphere. Today I visited Uncommon Cafe for the second time ever. I asked the barista for a chai latte with almond milk. When repeating my order back to me, he just said "latte," so I spoke up and said "chai latte" again just to make sure he got it right. However, when he served me my drink, it was in fact just a normal latte. So I brought it back and reiterated that I wanted a chai latte with almond milk. He just looked at me and said, "Latte?" And I said in a very clear voice, "No, I want a CHAI LATTE." And then he seemed to understand his mistake and agreed to make me a new drink. The second drink he brought me was still a normal latte. I didn't bother going back to ask for a third drink. Obviously the lights were just not on upstairs with this barista, or he has never made a chai latte and doesn't know what it is. I don't even want to know whether or not he actually used almond milk. So, it's a great place to hang out if you're okay with drinking something you didn't order.

I have been to Uncommon Cafe only a couple of times and plan on returning! It has such a warm and inviting atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, plenty of seating indoors, mind-bending artwork and the staff is so helpful! Swing by Uncommon Cafe for your coffee and stay for the people!
