Good restaurant to eat something when passing through. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. There are also vegetarian burgers.

Rustic and a little pricey for the bare-bones digs, but an excellent hub for exploring the area. Bed is comfortable and electric heat works. In-room coffee is horrible - but the adjacent restaurant is great for every meal. Wifi is decent, important since the whole region is a notorious dead zone.Food & drinks: The adjacent restaurant/bar is excellent.

Food & drinks: Well, the Angus rib eye steak was great bar none. It was the roasted chicken. i ordered it and immediately i could not stomach the taste. The waitress was wonderful, but i felt that the waitress saw that the chicken was still whole and knew i could not stomach it. It just tasted like chicken and it needed more herbs. There was nothing to accomodate my distaste for it. Well, i guess me explaining that it needed more spice was enough, but nothing else was offered to me to make up for what i didn't like. Case in point, even if you like chicken, don't eat this one because you will be disappointed.

Be careful with this inn. The website is very misleading, it looks cute and peaceful place. But the reality is that most of the rooms are located right near the highway 1. It is extra loud and noisy early around 6:30am, very very hard to fall asleep. And it’s very pricey place $200 per night. Please avoid this place, better to stay at Carmel and Monterey if you want a peaceful and quiet stay

No dogs allowed really? It’s 2024… time for a change…. It is Big Sur and should allow the entire family!!…..

We actually didn’t stay in the hotel. We ate in the restaurant which is always amazing. They have a roaring fire in the fireplace going always. Service is great. It’s the perfect way to kick off a day of hiking in nearby PFEIFFER state park or to head back towards Monterey and stop at Point Lobos. This is our GO TO place!Noteworthy details: Beautiful unique plants. Adirondacks in the River.

Food was good, ambiance was great. But the restaurant charged my card twice! all the good food and ambiance went to waste.

Worth it. The service is 3-4 stars but for me the ambiance and the food are amazing. Best to during summer or spring.

Just home from a girls' week down the coast to Big Sur. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner in Carmel who recommended this restaurant. So we stopped and had lunch along our extremely picturesque drive. We sat out a downpour in the very cozy dining room where we had great service and a delicious lunch. I had the best BLT I've ever eaten as well as fresh delicious fries. We were blessed with a tableside chat with the co-owners Alan and Ben. It was great to hear some history of the hotel and restaurant as well as plans for the future in keeping up with technology, yet preserving the Big Sur vibe. We will definitely be back!

This is the best-kept secret in Big Sur: enter the General Store and proceed to rear of the store. There, just past the cookies and chips you will find the burrito and blender drink kitchen, where some of the best burritos of your life are made. You know the drill: pick your tortilla type, white or Spanish rice, pinto or black beans, choice of meat, and then cheese, salsa, guacamole, cilantro... My pick is their spicy chicken with Spanish rice, black beans, salsa, cilantro, cheese, wrapped in a flour tortilla. If you travel down to Big Sur frequently, as I do, join their burrito club. Now, take your burrito and find a nice vista and create your own ambience and remind yourself: Life, is good.

We stopped for lunch after driving us1 to see Big Sur. We loved the beet salad and shared the ribs, which were very good, meat was tender. Service was good, could be a little better. The atmosphere is great, quaint, beautiful views of the river & trees.
