My first time having the AJ Spurs experience. My partner had a steak craving, and I thought, this place probably has something random I would enjoy (not into big pieces of beef or pork, ribs, etc.). We were early for dinner, got seated at a nice large booth, way nicer than we needed. Classic country on the sound system, was cranking out Johnny Cash and the like. In my opinion, the good stuff. Decorations were old style western, rustic, lots of taxidermy animals. Husband got his drink, he was happy with the pour. I asked about the fried chicken sandwich and the waitress, well, her expression was pretty skeptical. I asked her what she would recommend and she suggested the 6 ounce filet mignon (also the shrimp). He got the sirloin. The courses then proceeded to arrive: Beef vegetable soup, house made beans and salsa. Then a nice green salad with a delicious avocado dressing for me, ranch for him. The highlight of this meal was the filet mignon. It was absolutely tender and every bite was delicious. He liked the sirloin, but when I gave him a taste of mine, he agreed it was perfect. The plate came with a delicious rice pilaf, a nice thick piece of garlic toast, and a separate pan of thin sliced pan fried potatoes. We hadn't had lunch and were working outside all day and he ate everything but the potatoes. I demolished the steak and bread and had a few bites of the other things. Most of our conversation was about the music... we played Name That Tune (and artist) the whole time. Not our typical genre but we remembered almost everything they played. That was super fun! Hadn't heard some of that stuff in years! Conway Twitty, I haven't forgotten you! He declined the dessert and I had the Amaretto. Really nice finish to the meal and a perfect amount. Brought home the rice and potatoes, should have grabbed the beans as the waitress suggested but I thought I wasn't ever going to be hungry again. (Wrong, I ate the rice last night AND this lunchtime.) I hope that filet is still perfect next time. Ask for medium rare. Go in before it gets too busy. Take home the extras. Don't sweat the small stuff. Lots of places these days charge too much for each tiny, fussy, overly curated course. This place gives you piles of good food for one decent price.

What a pleasant experience. Not too noisy. We could converse readily. Server was helpful explaining menu questions. Food was very good.

I like coming to this place, the soup itself is pretty tasty. Combine with black beans and it's very yummy. The meat was cooked well done in one side and medium in the other. No complaints I still enjoyed the meal.

We were the first customers of the day. First time trying this place. Stew was warm at best. Rice pilaf hard. Bbq chicken ok. Services was excellent. Probably not coming back.

Fun atmosphere for a night out. The food underwhelms so I don’t recommend spending on any high ticket items, it will probably disappoint. If you go for fun and atmosphere, and have low expectations on service and food, you’ll be fineKid-friendliness: Fun for kids

Used to be a great place but it was sure isn't now! Over priced & bad service.. Rice wasn't done & sitting in blood from the steak, potatoes had no taste, garlic bread cold. Very disappointed. We told the Manager & he didn't care at all, he didn't try to make anything right or offer to exchange anything, he was unbelievably rude!!! Will not return ever!

A magnificent throwback to the great steakhouse saloons I adore! From the stew to the root beer floats it was everything I'd hoped it would be love the bar and fireplace!

I am embarrassed that it took so long to write this review. On February 22nd we made a reservation to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. We walked in and were greeted by Marlene. I can't even explain how wonderful she is and how special she tried to make our celebration. I became sick and was in pain . She got our food packed it up quickly and walked us out. Marlene is a gem and AJ's is lucky to have her as an employee.

A LOT of food...soup and beans served family style, a salad, potatoes, rice and garlic bread served with your dinner. I ordered the full rack of beef ribs and they were huge and meaty.

This place is always a great experience. We were hungry and they were one of a couple spots open late. We were served right away the food was great and the service was also really good. They give you a lot of food enough to share if you want to. I would definitely go back next time I'm in town again.

This was a tough one. We had gone to this place many times in the past, it was a great place to have dinner. The owner needs to pay attention, there's a reason the steakhouse a few doors down was packed. The outside needs to be painted, spruced up with the plants, and the bled out signs needs to be replaced. The bar stools inside look like they are the original stools, ripped and worn, half were missing. The bar platters used to serve drinks were on the floor. The guy host who seated us looked like he had a hangover, no personality. The bartender was a great worker, not only did he make drinks, he served salads and dinners in the bar area. He even had a table upstairs that he was running up and down the stairs during dinner time. A couple of the waitresses were helpful and great. We were seated in the bar area, not sure what the regular diningroom looks like. I'm guessing they didn't have enough employees to wait on customers. There were no cars outside. Won't be going here again, the inside needs about as much work as the outside. The food was good though, it's a shame, because a couple of the employees are really good!

The ribs, both portion and taste are an excellent value. But the vibe in there is really really depressing. I don't know exactly why. I'm almost 50, and went on a Saturday night at 7 it felt like I was at a convalescent hospital. We got put in a room near front door. The room has a big wall separating most of restaurant (didn't used to). Felt like I was in time out. We came here about 7 years ago the bar was jumpin the place was great. Not sure what happened. Next time I'll just get the ribs to go.

Love this place the amount of food that they give you for the amount you pay is incredible. We are on our 4 time going and I have never been able to finish all the food. We always take some home. The service is quick and to the point. Place is normally busy but have never waited more then 10 minutes to get a table. They have animals on the walls so if that is not for you this might not be the place for you.
