It is a sad sad day. My beloved Yang Chow is closed. I have been a regular at this location for the last ten years. The best Chinese food in the Valley! Kevin we will miss you!

Can't say I'm that sad to see it close. It was always overpriced and quality was very variable. We had a pork dumpling soup once that was inedible and the Szechwan chicken dish often had meat that was tough and stringy. I still don't understand why Chinese food in SFV is generally so mediocre.

After 40 years...they lost their lease and will be closing their doors . Thank you for so many wonderful late dinners.

I love this place and really bummed they are closing! I will definitely be checking out their other locations. Delicious food... one star off because it's pretty expensive.

Best Chinese food in the Valley. Unfortunately Topanga Canyon Blvd is closing August 21, 2018. Owner states Building being demolished to put new building. Good news Pasadena and China Town restaurant still open. Long Beach one coming soon. Don't forget to order the slippery shrimp.

The original location is iconic and this one doesn't let you down. Same food with more open space and laid back. Amazing service too. Definitely a favorite place to eat.

Friendly staff. Attentive to all of our 11 guests, and most of all great food.

First, I must admit I have been eating here a few times per year since they opened many years ago. Yang Chow serves "American Style" Chinese food. If you are looking for the authentic Chinese cuisine that you find in Chinatown, you will not find it here. The owners and employees are always nice and the service is good. The prices are quite high so you better get ready to pay the bill! Try to ignore the poor appearance and maintenance of the exterior! All in all.... Average.

As a native of the east coast, I grew up with Chinese food every weekend. The family would fight over boxes of different orders so everyone would get to try something they liked. The food was always good, cheap, and quick. Remember those days? Well, I came here with incredibly high expectations after a colleague recommended them. We were having lunch on a Tuesday. The service is top notch / very attentive / friendly. Drinks were always full, prompt to bring extra hot sauce, etc. I also felt that the place was clean and well organized. This place lost two stars because (1) their signature dish [Slippery Shrimp] tasted bad / was very greasy / was boring in flavor and (2) the decorum has me feeling like I was in a 1980s style living room - just an outdated feel. Some people rave about this place. For me? It was a meal... but would not classify it as enough of a memorable experience that I'd ever go back or recommend to friends.

The food here is absolutely amazing! If you are in the westside of the San Fernando Valley, this is a must-stop restaurant if you're in the mood for amazing Chinese food!

I wanted to explain why I only gave three stars. I knew Yang Chow from the Los Angeles China Town which is known to many for their Slippery Shrimp. The one thing I forgot about Yang Chow is that they are $$$ EXPENSIVE for what they offer. You'll pay close to $20.00 for an order or Slippery Shrimp, and yes, while it is amazingly tasty, for a fact, you're not getting the amount of shrimp to what you're paying for.. Also flavor wise, outside of the Slippery Shrimp, nothing else is really worth it on the menu (IMHO), as for what you're paying for, isn't what you're really getting.. there's a bit of a sticker shock... For this, IMHO, on Yelp this is listed as $$ when really it needs to be listed as $$$ but also if you decide to dine in, what you'll be provided with is a very lovely establishment, not some decor less sparse Chinese restaurant that I've so far experienced in the Valley... If you're looking for a reasonably priced Chinese food, this isn't it.. however, if you are ready and prepared for the sticker shock and you're looking to dine in, you're in for a treat, however, for me, to order three main courses and two side dishes and to be almost spending $80.00 for take out.... that's not my cup of tea at all.. They're charging Monterey Park & Beverly HIlls prices... The Orange Chicken, was anything but.. you really could not tell it was orange chicken, or General Tso to be honest, and if it wasn't for the little bit of over-saturated orange peel when you bite in to it, you really could not tell. The only other give away was that even though they give you some large 'Taki Mushrooms, frankly for our taste, it was a bit too much and not enough chicken, of which seemed like small scraps, vs nice big chunks. Clearly the Orange Chicken was larger bits of meat, but not by much. So I have to ask, for a justification of costing $10.00 for a side order of traditional Egg Fried Rice, no protein, and rather underwhelming in consistency and taste... when we got home, and.I saw how much rice I received, I could have spent that same amount anywhere else and received DOUBLE, if not TRIPLE to the amount of rice that we got. Since Yelp only has a 1-5 star classification system, this is why I'm providing only a two-star review... because for all the food options out there... what they are charging you, for what you're getting food wise, at $20.00 a plate, I'd rather spend that in gas to drive for my Chinese food where I know I'll get a healthy balance of quality and quantity.

We have been going to Yang Chow for 40+ years. The food is consistently good, and so is the service.

Food is, as always quite good. Ambiance is, as always, lacking. Service is, as always, excellent. Prices are, as always, the highest in town. Worth it? Well, let me put it this way: I go here for my birthday (dinner for 3 =$80+), but my takeout/delivery business (and we're talking 45-50x/yr) goes to Shanghai Bistro. The food there is decent, and the prices are normal. Everything on their mnu is $4 less for the same menu item than Yang Chow. Even the fridge rice. So, Yang Chow stands out for the quality of the food. But they have priced themselves out of the local market. If they were competitive with the other half-dozen decent Chinese places within a mile or two, they would get a lot more business from me, and the other locals who feel largely the same.

UPDATED 7/2018 Sadly, Yang Chow is closing this location in August. The official line is they lost their lease and they landlord sold the building. When asked if they were relocating to somewhere nearby, the owner said they were not, and that I was welcome to visit them in Chinatown or Pasadena (I have been to the Chinatown Location--exactly the same food). If there were thriving here, they would relocate. Unfortunately, I suspect their high prices and lack of available delivery may have kept their clientele limited to the fanatically loyal only, and prevented the ongoing growth a restaurant needs to stay afloat. (Have you ever heard of a Chinese restaurant that doesn't deliver? This is literally the only one I know of which does not.) Sadly, beginning in August 2018, we will have to go to Chinatown for Slippery Shrimp. :( Farewell, Yang Chow. Thanks for all the delicious shrimp over the years. --- Food is, as always, good. Ambiance is, as always, lacking. Service is, as always, absolutely superb. Prices are, as always, a bit too high. My takeout/delivery business goes to Shanghai Bistro, where the food is decent (not as good as Yang Chow), and the prices are 45% less. Yang Chow has one thing no one else does: slippery shrimp. That's the main reason most of their customers go. And oh, is it ever worth it! :) Yang Chow stands out for the quality of the food, and the impeccable service. Your water glass will never be empty here. Sadly, they have priced themselves out of the local market. If they were competitive with the other half-dozen decent Chinese places within a mile or two (and if they delivered--they oddly do not!), they would get a lot more business from me, as well as other locals who seem to feel largely the same.

So I am very disappointed in Yang Chow. I am currently not eating meat so I asked the lady can I order a vegetable soup and can you make sure you load it up with a lot of vegetables. I paid 10 dollars for a soup that only has chopped snap peas and mushrooms. I AM PISSED!!! How do you charge someone that amount of money for BROTH!! i have been to every Yang Chow and I can say this one is the WORST. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!
