I love Takara. Get the spicy hot lips, shrimp with spicy mayo and tobiko. Nutty shrimp is good too: tempura shrimp with macadamia nuts and avocado. Full bar, happy hour drink prices and menu. I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar, and watching the chefs make rolls. The service is always good for us, and I can usually flag down our waitress for special requests. We have been going to Takara for many years, and have had group gatherings and celebrations there also. The food has been consistently very good. Our whole family likes going there, including the young children.

I have no idea why this amazing restaurant closed.It's one of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to on the West Coast.The other was in Eugene OR and sadly it closed too!! I tried some other ones in Santa Cruz, but didn't find any as good. AsI recall, there is a good Japanese restaurant in Monterey.
