“Visiting California for the first time and as a CT Pizza Snob the first thing I do in a new place is look up recommended pizza spots. Ellie’s was a block from my AirBnb and had a 5/5 review. So I said to my girl, “this is the spot we need to check out”, and we headed up. The hours are crazy limited for good reason but we got there at open and chose the outdoor seating. The decor was really neat 70’s style and the wood oven was in the back yard on a trailer. I sat at a picnic table and watched Doug, the owner, carefully crafting orders. As I watched him all I could think was “this man is an artist.” He inspected EVERY pizza that came out. When ours were finally cooked and brought over, he stopped and chatted with us for a bit. Doug shared with us his deep passion for pizza and explained how he and his wife just started the shop and take time on the weekend to bake pies for the local homeless population. Great story, great vibe, great people…and then there’s the pizza. Absolute GAS. As good a wood fired pizza as I’ve had anywhere, and I’ve had a lot. I couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning and heat up my leftovers. If you are in San Diego and don’t grab a pizza from Ellie’s, you missed out.“

“First time visit and very satisfied. Large portions of the green curry. I couldn't finish the portion so took the rest home. We also had the papaya salad and the lemon grass grilled chicken with two sauces, excellent! Sorry I was hungry and started eating without taking a photo. We will return!“

I didn’t know this feijoada before, but I’m already a fan!

Service: I placed my order at 2:41 PM and received it at 3:23 PM.

Presentation: I thought it was just a picture for illustration, but it actually came in this beautiful box that keeps the food from tipping over.

Food: Generous portions! For me, it could easily be three meals. The flavor was amazing—perfectly balanced, not too salty but well-seasoned, not only in the feijoada but also in the farofa and collard greens! The feijoada came with a lot of meat, including sausage, ribs, and other premium cuts of pork, all tender!

“They always take a while to get your order ready ALWAYS! But the wait is very worth it. I had originally came here for the pork katsu and curry which is really good. I tried their sushi for the first time last night and was seriously surprised, in a good way. I’ve tried several sushi places in the South Bay and this is some of the best. If you’re ever in the area and craving sushi you should try it! I recommend it.“

“Portions are big and has alot of flavor! Wait time was 15-20 minutes but thats because I ordered in person and not on the phone . Sushi was being prepared while I was getting groceries at the supermarket as soon as I came out food was ready. Make sure to order on the phone before you arrive, as food is made fresh. Keep in mind this is not a fast food place like McDonalds . Its authentic sushi from Sinaloa, Mexico 🇲🇽“
