Very sad. It was my favorite restaurant in the past. Our family went there many times and we also have takeout many times. Last Friday, we bought our visitors to have dinner. The service was very poor from ordering the foods to deliver the food on the table. It took so long. It appears they don't have enough people to take care the customers. What a disappointment!

The restaurant is closing on 6/22 according to the Latino busboy who made his way from table to table to tell all the diners. He also handed out the business card of another Chinese restaurant. No other Chinese wait staff was doing it. We wonder why?! The quality of the food seemed to remain the same. The service was the same lacking. Nothing seemed to have changed yet.

I love Chinese cuisine. Although my favorite local Chinese restaurant is Chef Chu's over in Los Altos ( Hong Fu was one of the first Chinese restaurants I went to around here way back in the late 90s some 20 years ago. In the last 20 years, many businesses in this shopping center have come and gone, but Hong Fu (and I think Pier 1) is one of the only businesses still here from back then. Sadly, per a "change of ownership" sign on the window, and, after confirming it by asking them inside, Hong Fu will close its doors for good in one month in mid-June. I was told that the owner, after running the business for the past 29 years, is finally ready to retire. There aren't too many Chinese restaurants around here that have been around as long as Hong Fu. The only ones I can think of that have been around here as long as, or longer than Hong Fu, are: * Chef Chu's in Los Altos (link posted above) * Mandarin Gourmet, also in Cupertino nearby on De Anza) ( * Tao Tao in Sunnyvale ( Some of the ones that have closed within the past 20 or so years: * Wu Shan in Sunnyvale * China Rose in Cupertino on Stelling (now occupied by Shanghai Garden) * China Shuttle in Los Altos ( (now occupied by 2B Fit Body Bootcamp) * Potsticker King in Cupertino ( * Jade Garden in Sunnyvale (now occupied by Hanamaru) * Canton Delights in Cupertino (now occupied by Lei Garden) With Hong Fu about to, sadly, join their ranks, I decided to order takeout from here recently for dinner. I first ordered steamed rice, mongolian beef, and sweet and sour pork. A few nights later, I came back again and ordered a big dish of beef chow mein and potstickers. As I said earlier, I'm very partial to Chef Chu's on quality of food and ambiance. That said, Hong Fu has an excellent ambiance in its own right, the food here is great, and one area in which they surpass Chef Chu's is price. Hong Fu's prices, while not dirt cheap, are excellent for what you get. The servings for even just one person are HUGE. I had enough food after each visit to last for two meals in a row, and I paid just a little over $10/dish. For takeout, they will put the food in oyster pails or a small box. What I liked is that they put the sweet and sour pork sauce in its own oyster pail rather than go ahead and slather it onto the dish itself. Thanks to that, I could decide for myself how much sauce I wanted to put on. They were also generous with the fortune cookies, giving me one per each dish I ordered. Each dish was great. No complaints, and I definitely got my money's worth. I'm really sad that they're closing since, as repeatedly stated, they were one of the last local Chinese restaurants that had been still going strong after all these years despite the others posted above closing down. And like I also said, they close in less than a month in mid-June, so get here quickly before times runs out. Thank you, Hong Fu, for serving Cupertino and the local community with delicious Chinese food all these years. I'll miss you guys. 5 stars all the way

Food was bad. Smoked seabass tasted funny. Service miserable. Waitress also just wanted to dump the dish on the table and leave. Dessert was served before one of the main courses.

Food was good mislabeled salt and pepper chicken. No salt and pepper cooked with what tasted like anise. Only served water and hot green tea. Was waiting about 15 minutes just to get a refill on my water.

My family has been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the food here. We like their northern style Chinese dishes as well as their Chinese American ones. My family celebrated Mother's Day here with a delicious lunch. It was packed, but our food still came out quickly. Some of our favorite dishes were the Peking Duck, Mushu pork, sautéed squash and Stir fried rice cake. My boys also loved the salt and pepper pork. My favorite was the stir fried rice cake with snow vegetables and pork. The chewy rice cakes were cooked perfectly without too much oil and they weren't stuck together. The Peking Duck was delicious! I love how the restaurant separated the skin and meat. Plus, all the bones were removed too! What a wonderful Mother's Day lunch!!

The portions for the lunches seemed a bit on the smaller side compared to most other Chinese restaurants but the prices are decent. The downside is that when you order your food Togo the soup option is not available which I don't understand since it is listed as a side option. The staff is kind and the manager actually helped me out to my car because I had a fairly large order which was very sweet of him. I will be back to try other options.

The food quality has improved from last year. Both roast tea duck and steam sea bass are pretty good. I would not mind to dine there again.

Excellent food as always, but the bathrooms seriously need to be redone.

I dont expect great service at chinese restaurants but this place is worse than your average chinese restaurant. If you ask the staff for waters or anything, it seems like your Are a huge burden. They will never come around your table except to drop off your ordered food. The food is not anything special to make me want to come back again.

The restaurant is between a Sprout's and TJ Maxx. Food is good, will come back for more. I look forward to trying the Salt Pepper meats/fish and beef cho fun.

Hong Fu has been my family's go-to Chinese restaurant for decades. The food is delicious and expertly prepared and the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. It's also great for groups. They have tables that seat parties of 12-13. We used Hong Fu as our rehearsal dinner location for our wedding, and it was so meaningful given the big part this restaurant has played in family gatherings over the years. Hong Fu has a back room that can fit up to 4 banquet tables (12-13 can seat at each table). We had 38 people attend our rehearsal dinner, and we used just 3 of the tables (to keep things nice and spacious). Below is what we ordered for each table (most of these dishes are family favorites, especially the pork ribs in pumpkin, the steamed sea bass, and the scallop with walnuts and cream sauce). Dinner and tax and tip came out to $1,000 - which is an amazing price for such a large group :)! Marinated duck deep fried with tea smoke flavor Pork Ribs in Pumpkin Steamed Sea Bass (large) Scallop with Cream Sauce and Walnut (2 orders) Sizzling Rice with Prawns Cumin Lamb with Chili Lamb with Green Scallions (1.5 orders) Braised Eggplant with Garlic Sauce and Pork (1.5 orders) Wok Fried Pea Sprouts with Garlic Crispy Pan Fried Noodle (Shrimp, Chicken, Pork, Beef) (1.5 orders) Steamed Rice (6 orders)

I came here for lunch in a group of 11. The food was so so. The food wasn't very hot. But I have to say that it did come out quickly considering the amount we ordered. I would never expect good service from a Chinese restaurant but this place is even worse than the worst. Do not go here unless you want poor customer service. If you happen to be hungry, you be better off starving than eating at Hong Fu.
