We went to the La Mesa vegan farmers market and Stone Monkey was there. I was excited to see vegan sweet & sour pork and dumplings on their menu. However, both were very disappointing. The sweet & sour pork wasn’t crispy. It was chewy and bland. The dumplings were nothing special either. Both dishes lacked flavor and seasoning. Definitely not worth the money and it was pricey! $27 for both. Thankfully they gave me a refund.

Been wanting to try them for a while, especially their dan dan noodles. It was decent and satisfied my Chinese food cravings but all I could taste was the chili oil. Not bad but could be better.

Note: This is a food stand that pops up at places, not sure if the physical address they list on their website actually serves food. Finally got to try this at the Vegan Oktoberfest at First Friday Night Market at Grossmont Center, my wife and I wanted to this it out when they had their weekly pop up at Sepentine Cider but that ended before we had a chance to get down there. Food was very tasty, they do a great job of creating a vegan alternative to Chinese food that looks legit and has the very similar flavors and textures, less the meat! We tried the Gua Bao Buns first, PERFECT! Not sure how they do it, but these look like almost like real pork belly, and flavors and textures were great! Definitely took the spotlight because this is a dish you wouldn't normally expect to look and taste this good. We also had the Sweet & Sour Pork, super tasty also, but it's a type of food that is more expected at a stand like this. So glad we finally got to try it, definitely worth it and will keep an eye out for their next pop up.

After trying the dan dan noodles at a vegan pop-up market today, I can not stop thinking about them! The noodles, the OmniPork, the crisp veggies. Amazing. My boyfriend had the spring rolls and really liked them. I am looking forward to trying the rest of the menu because the whole menu looks fantastic! The staff was super friendly, and the portions were generous. Who can complain about vegan Chinese food? I can not, as it is challenging to find and is one of my favorite cuisines. I will continue to support this local restaurant and recommend giving it a try!

As a vegan who wants chinese food at least once a week, this place hits the spot. They used to be at the farmers market, but they now do delivery so I dont have to wait once a week to get their scallion noodles and ka pao chicken. So good it really is a must try if you live in san diego.
I always order Stone Monkey at the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market. Now they’re on Uber Eats and Doordash - awesome! Picked it up in el cajon yesterday and it was fresh just like at the market. If you love Chinese food, you’ll love this place.
