It was my first time coming here for brunch. The service was amazing! Everyone was so nice and helpful. We got seated right away. I got the chefs choice. Chicken fried steak. It was great. Mel's is truly a locals hometown diner. It has an easygoing,friendly atmosphere with excellent service! There was just one server and a "busboy," but they worked well as a team. I say "busboy" because it is such a limiting term. He did everything and anything that needed to be done. As for regular customers: one gentleman was seated maybe 5 minutes after my husband and I. I have never been disappointed after eating here. This has become my go to for classic American diner food over the past year. The portion sizes are perfect, the prices are more than fair, and the staff is always friendly and quick. After trying nearly their whole breakfast menu I would recommend their chili cheese omelette or their pancakes.
