About Sweet Rice and Spice

Sweet Rice and Spice is a Laotian/Thai restaurant located in an old market-style food court. The food is distinctly Lao and packed with flavor. Customers have ordered laab, pad kapao, Lao sausage, papaya salad, kao piek sen, pad thai, kao soi, pad see ew, meatballs skewers, and mang sticky rice. The papaya salad used ancho and had a bright lime kick without being sweet. The Lao sausage had a subtle coconut and lemongrass flavor with jeow on the side for dipping. The laab was excellent with sticky rice and fresh chilis. The kao piek sen tastes the way a mom would make it. The pad thai was excellent, and the pad see ew had lots of chicken. The meatballs skewers went well with the dipping sauce and sticky rice. The flavor was immense and the texture perfect to chew. The staff are kind, friendly, and professional. The food is authentic, fresh, fast, and hot or cold depending on what is ordered. Prices are very reasonable and adequate. The environment is super casual, cafeteria style with existing tables. This place is a must for good Lao food and is by far the real deal. Highly recommend.

We ordered laab, pad kapao, Lao sausage, papaya salad, and laab again. We expected the food to lean more Thai, but to our surprise it was distinctly Lao — and that was confirmed when we chatted with the aunties in Laotian. They were incredibly kind, and it was awesome watching them cook. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve had Lao food in the U.S. that didn’t feel watered down.

The papaya salad used ancho; it wasn’t overly pungent, had a bright lime kick, and...read full review
I come here to eat with my dad on occasion. So far we've tried the kao piek sen, pad thai, and kao soi and they all have been very delicious. Kao piek sen tastes the way my mom would make it!! We are both Lao and appreciate having access to local laotian cuisine
