This is a G-town OG. Been coming here since small kid days. My sister and I would fight over the tamago. I hope this stays open forever. Note, it's cash only and I love that.

Old school nostalgia in a box. Take out and cash only, phone orders preferred. Lucky i went on a weekday on my last trip to Gardena and ordered up a 10 piece sushi box with the popular items walking up, the lady at the counter handpicked them for me ?No joke, this family owned business has been around since 1962. The California roll is straight bussin. Fresh avos and real shrimp used. Dunno how much longer theyll be around but im happy i got to eat here again 5 stars?Parking: Parking on street or in the back of the building.

Easily the best sushi place I've ever been to. The epitome of an under the radar hole in the wall type of place. They only have (and need) a simple menu because they execute it so well. I appreciate that you can order ahead and pickup. Not only is the fish and other ingredients fresh, the rice is perfectly flavorful - a balance of vinegar and sugar but allows the other ingredients to shine ??

The nori/inari sushi reminds me of the snack I ate at my grandparents house in Hawaii 50 years ago! Can't find this anywhere else it seems, I absolutely love this place. My family always orders this for holidays when we get together...it's def a treat! I live all the way across LA about 60 miles away, so I don't get out there as often as I'd like....but whenever I'm in this area....I try and get a box!! Definitely will be back!!!

Came here due to the incredible reviews. The sushi is ok. Really just a ton of rice… have had much better sushi in other hole in the wall

We got the sushi set and a California roll. California roll is a must! It has shrimp and avocado in it-- although it's so simple, the simple flavorings make it taste so good. Be warned that the sushi rice has a stronger than usual vinegar taste but it was such good quality rice that it tasted even better! I thought that the rice was the star rather than the insides. It's not groundbreaking sushi but it is fresh and a very filling meal. There's no seating - it's just a pickup window so there's not much service but they're really nice. Make sure to order ahead!

I guess I set my expectations too high after hearing so much hype about this place.Rice was too sticky and wet... more like mochi consistency... is what really brought the total experience down. I think I have had better qualities from takeout bentos from Mitsuwa...I really wanted to like this place after driving 45 minutes from OC... so disappointed...

This place has been in business like forever. Super simple to-go only sushi placeNo Uber eats, no only order. You just call or go there to pick up simple and limited sushi menus. That's it. They still have super old cash register (you see only in movies or in the museum. The place is very small. It might fit only three people.

Actual prices are almost double those listed. Owner claims he can't change listed prices. Seems dishonest.

Take out window is inside not on the street. Parking lot made it convenient. This is CASH ONLY so don't make my mistake. I drove down to Aldi across the street and got cash back there. This is a family owned restaurant and the people are lovely. The sushi was good and everything tasted fresh. The mackerel is salty! The California roll was my favorite. Give them a try.

First time.. we finally made it to Sakae to see what all of the fuss is about. We have been missing out! 6 simple menu options, the only decisions to make are how many pieces in the box, and what we wanted in our combo. Being newbies to this business that's actually older than me, we ordered a 12pc box and asked for 2pc each of the 6 different sushi pieces. We arrived at 2:30pm on a Saturday. I was a little worried because I hadn't called my order in advance as requested in pics I've seen posted. The lady at the walk-up window was very sweet and took our order. I've always wondered how I had never stopped here in all of the years me and my family have come to Gardena and Torrance to shop. Today I realized, it's so tucked away and unassuming, you wouldn't find it if you're not looking for it. It's a small hole in the wall (literally) with no indoor customer areas at all. Orders are over the phone or at the window, and you take everything to go. We carried our precious box to the car and dove right in. Every bite was delicious! Well, actually hubby wasn't a fan of the mackerel and I could have passed on it too, but the other 5 items were prepared and presented beautifully in the box, and the California roll was actually something to get excited over! We almost made the mistake of passing on the basic CA Roll, but I'm glad we didn't!We have decided that the locals who live in the area are just spoiled. Great stores, markets and restaurants at every corner! Thanks for the quick lunch, Sakae. We will be back to see you again.

The seasoned rice was way too salty and the vegetables ingredients for futomaki and saba portion got so small compared to what they used to be. I am disappointed.
