This place has THE BEST FISH & CHIPS. Really. It'll ruin fish & chips from any other place on the planet. The first time I tried Barbara's was during the pandemic when I was looking for a place to eat outside, & I had always wanted to eat here. There is nothing fancy about this place (it has that coastal charm that HMB is known for & the staff is always quick and friendly), but you come here for the amazing food. Fast forward several years, the food is consistently delicious. The fish is always light & flakey with a clean taste, and the batter is crisp and never greasy. The restaurant closes for a couple of hours in the middle of the day each day to change the cooking oil. I also always order the corn fritters and clam chowder. I get excited thinking about eating here. Barbara's Fishtrap is definitely one of my favorite restaurants, and I always recommend it to out-of-towners and locals alike.

Service was great and so was the food. Fresh big oysters and cheaper than the other oyster bars too. The prawn ceviche was okay, the chowder in the bread bowl was good though. Would definitely come back

I didn't know what to expect given the reviews, but we wanted to have some fish and chips while in half moon bay and this place popped up. I was a bit disappointed and won't comment on the prices, we were in a touristy area so the prices weren't surprising. I'm not sure how I feel about the "living wage" surcharge... just pay your workers a living wage . The atmosphere was great, very low-key and coastal. It was a great place to hang out and enjoy some food. The food... meh. We ordered the corn fritters, world famous fish and chips, and the mini fishtrap. I would pass on the corn fritters, the batter was way too sweet. The fish and chips were okay, I was a bit disappointed as I've had better fish and chips elsewhere. The fried batter wasn't as crisp as I would have liked. The fishtrap had the best selection, with the fried scallops, shrimp, and calamari being really tasty.

We got the clam chowder, fish of the day sandwich, and fried fish with coleslaw. The clam chowder was interesting due to it not having that signature creaminess that other places specialize in, but it was still delicious. The fish had a thin batter and was seasoned well. The sandwich, however, was pretty precarious; I'd recommend getting your sandwich with boiled fish instead of fried.Even when coming on a Tuesday afternoon, the place had a line out the door. Also witnessed several arguments between the staff and customers due to wait times. I can't imagine what this place is like on the weekends...so make sure to come early!
