San Benito House
356 Main St, Half Moon BayWith less than 36 hours in Half Moon Bay, my friend Aimee and I had to be selective on where we went for our meals... How horrible would it be if we wasted a meal on sub par food? That being said, we were on the hunt for a late lunch on a Sunday and this place was one of our options. As soon as I saw the Yelp reviews (600+) and photos (365+) that came before this one, I knew this was our place! I glanced at a few reviews from friends and strangers and took the advice from many who said that the "sandwiches are huge." They were not kidding... A half sandwich is very filling although had I ordered a full, I may have finished it just because it was so delicious!Aimee and I decided to split a turkey sandwich with Jack cheese and avocado on Walnut Olive bread. We also had some chips and a drink.... We sat outside where there was some sunshine and live music nearby and it was perfect!I would definitely return to dine in or take out for a picnic if in the area. I am sure their salads and soups are great too, but you cannot go wrong with a sandwich, and there are so many to choose from. Highly recommend!

You can takes half an hour drive through highway 92 to reach the town center of Half Moon Bay easily. Most of the boutique shops and stores are located at the main street. There're some nice mural paintings on the buildings. Not very crowded at weekend but weekends could be full of visitors.

845 Main St, Half Moon BayI totally loved the ambience. The staff is amazing. The restaurant supposedly closes by 9pm but we were sitting there till 11.30pm and no one from the staff asked us to leave. The food was quite amazing. We ordered spaghetti with marinara sauce, ravioli, margarita pizza, olives and bruschetta. Everything was amazing. We were all vegetarians and they gave us quite a lot of options. One of us was vegan so we ordered the triple chocolate for dessert and the butterscotch dessert. It was absolutely amazing.

Took about 10 min to get our food, and it tasted great. Ordered eggs with a side of fruit and salad, and a fried chicken sandwich, which came out to $40 total. We sat at the window and got to watch the planes land and take off. Decor isn’t the same as the three zero cafe that was here before, but is a nice vibe inside. The Happy Taco Taqueria
184 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon BayThis is a fast pace lunch hurry up eat and go place. I got my food to go. Post pandemic I an not a fan of traffic. This place has it, good traffic. The chicken was good. Eating in my office I enjoyed my meal, the prices are average the the wait time is short. Who ever is managing this place kudos! Lunch for all, from a plate to just some tacos. The have aguas frescas, horchata with extra ice hits the spot. Conveniently located in a local shopping center before making your way down or up the coast. This was a good authentic bite. I am calling this a hidden gem. You may or may not get a table, but its clean and they have a salsa bar. Chips cost money, don't complain.

Dad's Luncheonette
225 Cabrillo Highway South at, Kelly Ave, Half Moon BayI had the pleasure of visiting this lovely place recently, and it truly has a unique and charming character of its own. Conveniently located just after the exit from the 92 freeway, it immediately caught my attention.During my visit, I decided to try two of their sandwiches: the mushroom and the hamburger. Both sandwiches were absolutely delightful, but I must admit that the mushroom sandwich stole the show for me. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the combination of ingredients made each bite a true pleasure. What sets this place apart is its ambiance. The rustic and slightly weathered appearance adds to its charm, and the fact that it's designed as a train is simply fantastic. I have a great appreciation for unique and interesting venues, and this place certainly fits the bill. It captures the imagination and transports you to a different world. One aspect that I felt was missing from the experience was the availability of coffee. It would have been wonderful to enjoy a hot cup of coffee alongside the delicious sandwiches. Perhaps this is something that could be considered as an addition to their menu.In summary, this place is a hidden gem with its own special spirit. The mushroom and hamburger sandwiches were both delicious, with the mushroom sandwich being my personal favorite. The ambience of the restaurant, with its rustic and train-themed decor, adds to the overall appeal. I highly recommend visiting this unique and interesting establishment, and perhaps a cup of coffee could be a delightful addition to enhance the experience even further.

India Beach
425 Ave Alhambra, Half Moon BayMy wife and I embarked on an adventure in Half Moon Bay, the land of traffic jams and hangry tourists. The situation got so dire that we considered making a break for it, executing a daring illegal u-turn like something out of a heist movie. But just as our grumbling stomachs were about to stage a coup, a ray of hope shone through the car window - the glorious beacon of India Beach, with its flashing open sign! We made a decision quicker than you can say "naan bread."As we pulled into the parking lot, it was as if we'd stumbled upon a hidden treasure. Unlike the overcrowded tourist traps nearby, India Beach exuded serenity and delicious aromas that promised an exotic escape. They even had tables set up on the patio, providing a front-row seat to the shoreline. It was like finding an oasis in the desert of hangry despair. The staff greeted us with smiles that could rival the sun's brilliance, and the food? Oh, it was a taste explosion that put our grumbling stomachs to shame. We devoured our meals like it was a race against time, savoring every flavorful bite. But the icing on the mango lassi had to be the owner's brother, who made an appearance like a cameo in a feel-good movie. This guy was so friendly; I half-expected him to start offering life advice or auditioning for a buddy-cop film. He added the perfect touch of hospitality to an already fantastic meal. In the end, we left India Beach with full bellies, happy hearts, and a renewed faith in the power of illegal u-turns.---I /may/ have asked chatgpt to punch this up a little... But seriously, we had a really nice time and enjoyed both the food and the really friendly people here. If you find yourself in Half Moon Bay, check it out.

Cantina @ San Benito House
356 Main St, Half Moon BayWe enjoyed the two outdoor seating sections. One with garden setting covered patio. The salsa flavored chip and salsa with guacamole is a must. The burrito and chicken salad are delicious with good portion. The only inconvenience is the lady's restroom (probably temporarily?) is in outdoor section with several people in line during busy Saturday hours.Another thing is the bill comes with tip starting with 25%, 28, 30% plus custom tip (after tax). This confused me as this is a semi self-service place.

Barterra Winery
315 Main St, Half Moon BayCute tasting room in downtown Half Moon Bay. They were previously located further down the block tucked away in a little courtyard, but now they're on the main strip front and center! They have plenty of indoor seating as well as a few tables outside. They had a few different tasting flight options when we went, we opened for one that was all white and one that was all red. We ordered at our table and the wines were brought out to us on cute little slate serving boards. Each wine came in a mini mason jar so that you could pour it in your glass at your own pace when you were ready. Of course everyone's wine preferences are different, but I personally didn't love any of the wines I tasted. I ultimately I preferred the whites over the reds. As we were checking out though, I noticed they had a rosé and asked for a taste, I'm so happy I did because it was fabulous! I ended up taking a bottle of that to go. Overall a cute spot with friendly service!

Fattoria e Mare
315 Main St, Half Moon BayThis place is truly outstanding! You can come casually dressed, but you will be treated like royalty. The bread is to die for. The wine list is extensive including the wines by the glass and they offer a respectable list of beers on tap. We enjoyed the butter, lettuce and peach salad, and the flavors were delicate, balanced, and exquisite! The goat cheese was so smooth it melted in your mouth. The Linguine with clams and lemon is gently spiced with chili peppers and delicately seasoned shrimp. It was superb. Our server Teresa was lovely and attentive, one step ahead and cleaned our table between our messiest courses, which was a nice touch from days gone by!. Best meal we’ve had in months! Barbara's Fishtrap
281 Capistrano Rd, Half Moon BayI've been coming to this restaurant since I was little (I'm 70 years old now). Back then it was called "Hazel's" and Hazel, who cooked everything would come out and talk to my grandparents, who knew her. She always had a greasy apron on. The fishing boats would pull right up to the restaurant with the catch of the day.The menu hasn't changed all that much. I had fish and chips as a boy and I had fish and chips at this visit. Excellent! I like the vinegar that's offered too. My side salad was very fresh and the dressing plentiful. This place has been a family tradition for over 65 years. The name's changed but the food quality and the atmosphere remain memorable.I've added the views of Half Moon Bay from the outdoor dining area.Kid-friendliness: There were a lot of people with children there. Mostly sitting outside. They have a reasonable children's menu.Parking: The parking lot is across the street and there's someone there who helped us find a spot to park. Excellent staff.

Panificio
101 Main St A, Half Moon BayHalf Moon Bay already has a few decent places to get pizza so I wasn't sure what to think about a new pizza place in town. But wow, the pizza was really on a whole new level. I had a few slices: a veggie special, a sausage, and a pear and gorgonzola. They were all amazing. First thing that stood out was the quality of ingredients. I could really tell that all the ingredients were super high quality, especially the ricotta and the tomatoes. The crust crisp but not overly crunchy. The pear and gorgonzola was absolutely delicious. Pear was fresh with just a bit of crunch to it, not soggy. Gorgonzola was subtle and just gave the perfect hint of funk. Very artisan.I took mine to go but there are even a few very small tables there to eat in.

Verrazzano Pizza
20 Stone Pine Rd, Half Moon BayPizza was great, but bear with me as I try my best to explain WHY I liked Verrazzano pizza:Zano was born and raised in New York City, in a small pizzeria owned by his parents. They worked hard to make their pizzeria a success, and they taught Zano everything they knew about making pizza. But Zano wanted something else. He wanted to see the world beyond the busy streets of New York. He wanted to live his own life, not the one his parents had planned for him. And so, he packed a backpack with some clothes, some money, and some pizza slices, and he boarded a bus to San Francisco.Verra was a beautiful girl with long blonde hair and bright green eyes. She worked at her parents wine shop in the city center, where she sold bottles of wine from all over town. But she wanted to see the world beyond the hills of San Francisco. She wanted to live her own life, not the one her parents had planned for her.And so, when she met Zano at a park near her shop, she felt an instant connection. They fell in love. They decided to run away together. They rented a small apartment near the bay, where they lived happily for a while. They shared their passions: pizza and wine. They made each other laugh: jokes and stories. They made each other happy: kisses and hugs. They got married. They had a child. A boy named Leo. They were a happy family. For a while.Something changed. Zano changed. He became too obsessed with wine. He drank more and more of it every day. He spent more and more money on it every week. He cared more and more about it every month. And he cared less and less about his family every year.Verra tried to help him. But nothing worked. Zano didn't want to be helped. He had no interest in talking or reasoning or being supported or being loved. He only wanted wine. And so Verra left him.It was a bleak and stormy night, when Zano received a phone call from an unknown person. The person told him that Verra and Leo had been in a car collision, that they had been struck by a drunk driver, that they were in grave condition, that he had to come immediately. He boarded a plane to New York City. In New York, he saw them. He saw them lying in hospital beds, wrapped in bandages and tubes and wires. He saw them pallid and motionless and lifeless. He saw them dead.Zano arrived too late. He could not bid them farewell. He could only weep for them. He wept for Verra, his wife, his love, his fate. He wept for Leo, his son, his delight, his pride. He wept for himself, his life, his blunders, his loss. He wept until he had no tears left. Then he drank until he had no wine left.He blacked out from the agony and the alcohol and the grief. He was discovered by a nurse who called for assistance. But death did not come.Life did. And life was harsh. Life gave him anguish. Life gave him guilt. Life gave him regret. Life gave him solitude. Life gave him nothing but misery. And life took away everything but pizza.Pizza was the only thing that remained from his past. Pizza was the only thing that reminded him of his parents. Pizza was the only thing that connected him to his family. Pizza was the only thing that gave him some consolation. Pizza was the only thing that kept him alive. And so Zano did something that was both foolish and brave. He decided to live. He decided to live for pizza. He decided to make pizza again. He rented a small shop near the park where he met Verra, where they were happy once upon a time. He named it Verrazzano's Pizzeria, after Verra. He made pizza every day, using his parents' recipe, using the finest ingredients, using all his love and skill and passion. He made pizza for himself, he made pizza for others, for anyone who desired a slice of joy or consolation or nostalgia or sorrow or anything else that pizza can offer. Because pizza is life.4/5 because Im from outside Bay Area where stuff is cheap

Straw Hat Pizza
186 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon BayHaven't been to a Straw Hat Pizza in over 10 years.Stopped here after a photoshoot because traffic was backed up on the 92 due to an accident.I told the cashier this and they were kind enough to come let me know traffic cleared up once they had gotten the word.Small town vibes, and I loved it.Everything went fine and the establishment was clean. The only thing was they got me with the front door that says Push, but really you had to Pull ? or vice versa. Took me a minute to realize and it gave me a good laugh. The small pepperoni pizza was really good too! Enough for leftovers.

Shiki Japanese Cuisine
20 Stone Pine Rd, Half Moon BayWell my go to was closing and would not take orders. So I gave this place a shot. The first thing I noticed was the prices, a little high for what they were serving but not too crazy. Ordered shrimp tempura sashimi combo, got vegatable tempura so the order was wrong (really craving shrimp tempura a beef teriyaki and sashimi and maybe a Cali roll.)Also ordered a teriyaki salmon dinner. The Tempura was stiff, not light, crisp or flakey it was like chewing through thick dough. Basically bad tempura. Whoever is working the fryer needs to let someone who knows what Tempura is give them a refresher. The fact they did not offer bento style dinners and try to make things fancy really just made this lose a star cause what I paid for here I could get elsewhere for higher quality and I would be happy to pay your price for good quality tempura and sushi, its just that if you charge so confidently also deliver. My advice is if you charge exuberantly make sure quality is at least as high as all your competitors. The Sashimi was good so they get a star back. It was fresh and they set it separate from the hot/warm order.I will probably go here again because it is unfair to judge a place off one visit. The sake bar seems strong but sake should not be the strongest leg of a sushi joint. Sushi and Tempura should.Parking: Just enough parking.

Spice Me Thai Cuisine
500 Purissima St, Half Moon BayThe food was delicious, and the flavors, though strong, blended well with the dishes in moderation. My family and I enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The dish I ordered in the picture is S2 Spicy Seafood. It had a mild level of spiciness, and the seafood was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend it if you visit Half Moon Bay.

Sweet55 - Swiss Chocolates & Confections
225 CA-1 Suite 104C, Half Moon BayCame across this little sweet spot in HMB is took us awhile in deliberation on what to pick…We went for a couple dark chocolate options and some milk chocolate options, and all were really good! We also added a couple cappuccinos to the order as well, which were good too. While there were a lot of options, it was hard for my wife to find a simple piece of dark chocolate. Sometimes simple is better.

AJ'S Coffee
198 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon BayStopped through here for coffee on a trip up the Pacific Coast Highway. This was the single greatest coffee I ever had in my entire life. It became the standard by which all other coffee will be judged for the rest of me and my wife's lives. And I know in my heart that it will never be matched nor surpassed. This coffee ruined all future coffee for us. Morning routine coffee at the house has become a sad tradition by comparison. 10/10 would recommend; but be warned. If you don't live nearby, will cause heart-ache.

Breakfast Restaurants in Half Moon Bay
Pilot Light
9850 Cabrillo Hwy, Half Moon BayGreat service - gentleman up front was very friendly while we placed our order and was able to accommodate my annoying substitutions/requests. Has a large menu with good prices for the area.
