What a wonderful and serendipitous surprise to find in La Mesa. Fourpenny House is full with warmth and amazing atmosphere. What a great a festive place. To some, it would see small but this place is large in experience and ambiance.

It saddens me that this is the last day of this pub being opened. Too expensive to keep up. Sad that it's right before the holidays and people are needing to look for work. I'm going to miss being able to come here and have the delicious Stout Du Monde and their Fourpenny Toast (House Made Spent Grain bread) with their flight of spreadable toppings.

I live in La Mesa and I have been to Fourpenny House half a dozen times. Every time I come I am never disappointed! The environment is epic! I've never been to Scotland but I was in Ireland a few months ago and I feel like I'm back whenever I step into this place. The service is great! The food and drinks are delicious and the setting is delightful! My kids love the Fish & Chips, I enjoy the cheese board with my husband and the beer and cocktails are always enjoyable. This restaurant has a lot of personality and has added a lot of old world charm to La Mesa! We also enjoy the bagpipes every time they come to play outside the restaurant.

Great food, beer, and experience! They have a new loyal customer! Thoroughly enjoyed the lamb sandwich and Scottish toasted sandwich with bacon, egg, feta, and a British flavored sauce (which my wife wants to find and have at our house). Lamb can be tricky, so it was cooked well and balanced well with rest of sandwich ingredients. Also tried two beers - Four Penny Ale and Flemish Invader (Belgium Quad), both of which I now a fan - I do not really like local micro breweries, but this beer was quite impressive. (Generally I like dark or wheat German beers, Irish reds, and Belgium Triples.) A Scottish Experience -- I am of Scot-Irish decent several generations ago (but I am an American! - I do not call myself a Scot-Irish-American). It was nice to find a Scottish restaraunt - I do not know of any others in the area, or even in San Diego. A wee bit o the Scottish experience ye laddies and lassies!

Disappointing, the food was very basic, nothing special especially for the price. The service was very slow and disorganized. We were the only order in at the time, and it still took 40 minutes for the food to come. Most of our order sat under the heat lamp for 20 minutes, until the omelet was cooked, which took way too long. Also, the cook kept scratching her nose while cooking, gross.

Drinks were great. Kitchen was closed when I arrived so I didn't get to try the food but I only imagine it was great. Good atmosphere as well

Walking in you get greeted by the very friendly staff. The food was great!! We had the Lamb burger, Bangers and Mash, and the assortment of house pickled veggies. The beers and drink selection was great.

We had a quick bite to eat and decided ordered and split the Lamb Burger. I must say it was quite delish, and was happy we discovered this new little Gem. We'll def be back and I am hoping if they decide on having a bread making class, I will be the first person to sign up.

Great beer selection and friendly staff. The House of Falcor beer was excellent. We didn't try any food but the menu had unique and tasteful Scottish options.
