Quiet and minimalist setting with sublime sushi preparation and subtle tastes. A very refined experience.
I didn't remember it also requires you to pay 20% tip upfront in reservation. I overpaid in dining with extra 20% as tip. This is really tricky and they should be ashamed of themselves.
Excellent culinary experience. Very classy and professional for business dinner. 10/10 would recommend.
Please note: I have extensive omakose dining experience. I guess you could call me a snob. Here, the presentation of the food, such as special figurines for some dishes, large cups for other dishes, was relatively pleasant and unique, but the food itself was nothing special. Also, the first 3 or 4 of the dishes were not fish; they were odd (almost filler) dishes no other sushi restaurant serves. My advice: Focus on the quality and quantity of the food, not its presentation. Another turnoff was the lack of choices for saki, where none of the bottles were less than $120, a price too high for even the richest of diners. Always have at least one bottle choice $100 or less. Last turnoff, at the end of the dinner during the billing process the waitress presented a computer with only three choices for the tip: 18%, 22%, and 25%. She held onto the computer device making it difficult, especially for a tipsy patron, to change it to 15%. Don't do that. Overall, the experience was average. I won't go back.
The interior is not highly decorated for the price point. Some tables in the back are loosely placed behind the bar area where the diners are eating. The food is too lightly flavored. I generally like less salty food, but this one has barely any taste except for things like caveat. The good part is the high quality of raw materials and the good service.
An exclusive 10 seat restaurant. Superb creations! Best of the best from Japan. The experience was memorable for our anniversary. Well-deserved Michelin rated! Well don't to the chef and staff!
Wonderful experience, flavorful cuisine, and exceptional service! We very much enjoyed celebrating my husband's birthday here. Thank you, Rebel Omakase!
Dinner is a calming experience in addition to the fine cuisine. The lighting, the subtle music in the background, the appearance of the interior of the restaurant put you at ease and you relax. The service is polite and perfect, the food prepared in front of you. There is a fabulous array of saki, beer, and malt made in Japan unlike those now made here and fine wine and champagne. All of the very fresh fish come from Japan sent in daily were delicious. Each piece is individually hand seasoned before serving. No wasabi or soy sauce on the bar or tables here unless it is part of seasoning an individual piece of sushi. They select what you will be served hence the style Omakase. You will savor the flavors of the fish not condiments. They pickle their own ginger. Different and quite tasty. It is an experience to be shared. Bring someone with whom you wish to share it. Dinner was expensive. But this is a Michelin starred restaurant. It deserves to be two stars.
Rebel Omakase aims for Michelin-star status but falls short of expectations. The staff was friendly and professional, and the wine and sake selection was great, though no sake or wine pairing was offered. Some of the plating was very extravagant, and the gifts were a nice touch. However, the sushi quality was inconsistent—while some fish was fresh, others, like the raisin-dry salmon roe, disappointed. The chef’s reserved demeanor and lack of dish explanations left us confused; the chef drops the sushi without saying what it is, so we had no idea what we were eating. We had to ask several times what we were eating, and it would have been helpful if the chef could at least say what he is serving. The absence of matcha was also a letdown. Michelin-star omakase requires not only top-tier ingredients and masterful technique but also a chef who explains what he is serving and greater consistency in the quality of the sushi. Unfortunately, Rebel’s uneven fish quality, weak sushi basics, and detached chef fall short of these standards.
In Laguna Beach’s competitive sushi scene, Rebel Omakase doesn’t quite live up to the Michelin hype. We suggest trying other spots for a more satisfying experience and better value.
The team at RO did an incredible job of coordinating with me from NYC to ensure that my mom had an unforgettable 70th birthday evening. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there, but their responsive team and thoughtful coordination gave me absolute peace of mind.
My parents sent me wave after wave of the artful omakase presentation in real time... and reveled in the experience long after! They're no strangers to a good omakase experience, but I believe the marked difference at RO was the palpable warmth, care and hospitality from the team.
The staff communicated with me beforehand and afterwards. I don't know if service gets any better than that! And apparently the food is phenomenal. I look forward to visiting soon!
Thank you so much to the RO team, for taking such wonderful and thoughtful care of us.

Amazing amazing!!! So hard to believe a place like this is just in Laguna! Love it! The chef is absolutely amazing and such a delightful person. Will definitely go again!! 10/10’
Finally found time to check out Rebel Omakase on our anniversary. Excellent service, atmosphere, and especially food! Came for lunch and was worth every penny. The standouts for me were the peach tea, miso soup, and striped mackerel. Can say, without a doubt, the best miso soup I've ever had.
All of the nigiri was made to perfection and was presented masterfully. The staff was always present and made sure we were taken care of. Highly recommend! Well definitely try dinner next time.
Great food and beautifully crafted presentation.
Quiet and relaxing. Food is very good and service is a big plus. Lunch is $220/p.
Such a delicacy treat!
