Really nice. I want to go back and sit in the back patio! Wonderful & elegant. Tea was great. The afternoon tea meal was great.
This is a shockingly bad afternoon tea service. From the food being served on plastic plates, to sandwiches with rotten vegetables and absolutely pathetic desserts. Just terrible.
Overall, a very lovely experience, though a bit overpriced. The presentation of the food was excellent, though the taste itself was nothing to write home about if I’m being completely honest. I think it’s more about the vibes and ambience than anything else. Blanca was very cordial and attentive throughout the whole process, so I’d say the service was good.
An intimate quiet restaurant for a deligtful tea party! The first course started off our enjoyment at Chado: flutes filled with a perfectly flavored iced tea, topped w/a strawberry, served with some chocolates and other sweets. Our tomato soups and salads were next and they were delicious. Our hot tea were in cute elephant pots and the sandwiches were yummy! Plenty of food to overfill us. We had no room for dessert, so we took our desserts home. The restaurant has a shop to purchase teas and tea accessories. Will I return? absoutely!
Lovely Experience, We went for a friend's birthday. The food was good not great and the tea was refreshing. They gave her a gift and a slice of cake for the occasion. Will return!
Lovely Experience
Very helpful and polite staff. The lady who attended me was also extremely knowledgable of healthy products
I settled in for afternoon tea at a charming tea room tucked beside the Japanese American National Museum. The light filters through wood-trimmed windows and the décor is muted yet elegant, with cozy tables — ideal for conversation over tea. There isn’t much in the way of outdoor seating, but the indoor ambiance feels refined without being stiff. Street parking is available nearby, and several paid lots are within walking distance; the Metro Gold Line stop is also just across the street.
I sampled the Chicken Tikka Panini (≈ $16.95), the Caprese Salad ($15.95), the Souchong Chicken sandwich ($15.95), the Chado Afternoon Tea Service ($28.95), and the Celebration Afternoon Tea Service ($36.95).
Each bite struck a good balance — the Panini was warm and savory with just enough spice, the salad was crisp and bright, and the sandwiches in the tea service were delicate yet flavorful. The scone that came with jam and cream held its own beside a crisp, buttery French macaron. The tea pours were generous, and I appreciated the gentle pace of service. Overall it’s a refined little escape in the middle of the city, and I’ll definitely return to explore more of their tea blends.
We love Chado Tearoom. Food and service were both excellent. Will be back again very soon. 5 stars.
The entire dining experience was wonderful from the moment we arrived. The restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere with warm lighting and tasteful décor that immediately set the tone for a relaxed evening. Our server was attentive and friendly, always available when needed but never overbearing. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish full of flavor and clearly made with fresh ingredients. From appetizers to dessert, everything was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I left feeling completely satisfied and eager to return soon.

Went with friends for birthday tea. It was cute and food was yummy. Staff was great, and they even gave me a tea cup and saucer as a b-day gift. 💜😊
If I could give 0 stars for ambiance, I would. I expected a tea house in the Japanese heritage museum to have more Japanese influence in the decor and ambiance. Instead it felt like a kitschy English style tea room. 1 star for quality of food, 2 stars given that it was clean and sanitary, and the service was fine and cordial… but given that this is a tea house, I would expect them to know how to properly brew tea at minimum. The tea was under brewed for both my and my husband’s teas— the Monkey picked oolong and Gyokuro. Their “most popular” tea as stated on the menu, the St. Marc, tasted like cough syrup rather than a “dance” between flowers as the menu suggests. The menu sounded so promisingly but execution fell flat. I could make better tea sandwiches at home. PASS, unbelievable that they could charge $30+ per person for this quality of offering.
What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday. I loved this place. Service was wonderful, food was delicious, tea was beautifully prepared. Highly recommend.
Great tea and lunch. A little slow because the museum is under renovation, but worth the trip!
a couple weeks ago i visited Chado because my daughter told me I should try loose leaf tea instead of the bags I always use. a guy there recommended me a green tea with jasmine that smelled just beautiful. I left with a small bag of that one and also a black tea with vanilla notes he said would go good with milk. both were delicious.
