Wow. Delicious. Really great ambiance and amazing vegetarian food. There is also good meat, I’m told. The halloumi cheese was delicious. The carrots were amazing. Interesting baba ghanoush - not what you expect… Fun bar, and nice patio tables.

Consistently the best dining experience in LA. I’ve been to Checker for every special occasion and regular occasion since 2022. I was making yet another reservation and realized I’m way overdue for a review!

It just hits on every level. The food only gets better as they iterate on the menu, the atmosphere is perfect at every time of day, the staff is great. They just nail it. It doesn’t get old. Huge thank you for all the amazing experiences, cheers to many more!

Dope. Killer cocktails and everything I've had on the menu absolutely slaps.

Small but interesting menu, all food was well seasoned however the meat was a little dry /over cooked. Our drinks were so good and recommend the non alcoholic mocktail as well as the alcohol ones. The eggplant dip and fluffy hot pita was so good. The passion fruit sorbet was really a granita. It was very delicious in a pool of coconut cream tapioca. Very unusual with surprising flavors. The restais very beautiful and our server was so nice.

What an absolute hidden gem. From incredible food (definitely don’t skip the hummus, feta or sweet potatoes), to the delicious drinks (the pain killer inspired slushy they have on tap right now??? Unreal.) and the overall atmosphere, this place is magic. I haven’t seen hospitality this good in a long time. We sat at the bar and both Josh and Brandy were phenomenal. When asked about what was in the slushy, Josh immediately brought a taste without us asking. Brandy was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and the space in general. They have a live jazz band Sundays/Mondays and on other nights they have a DJ. A really special experience overall.

Had the best time at Checker Hall for my birthday dinner! Every dish we ordered was absolutely incredible fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our server was not only super helpful with recommendations but also brought such a fun, upbeat energy to the night. The vibes overall were spot on, great music, warm lighting, and just the right amount of buzz in the room. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate. I’ll definitely be back!

Great and innovative food, crowded and noisy. But distinctive menu!

The ambiance here is fantastic--it reminds me of New Orleans. The food is really good, The whipped feta is a must-try. The food leans on the spicier side, if you do not like spicy food. The service is super friendly, and hats off to them for having some of the best cocktails in LA. Highly recommend!

So good. Neighborhood classic spot with beautiful seating, beautiful bar, live music sometimes, best hummus.

Vibes:
Off York, this spot is on the second floor. Get your ID checked at ground level if needed and head upstairs on the black and white steps. Try to reserve the balcony / outdoor tables for a nice view of the neon Highland Theater sign and the street below, or a booth for your group, both with be beautiful.

Drinks
A generous cocktail and drink menu and the cocktails are well designed. There is a good variety for different tastes and alcohols.

Food
The spreads are exceptional. I insist on you trying the hummus here, it has roasted chickpeas on top and are excellent. The pitas are wonderful and warm and we often order seconds. The baba ganoush is great too and the whipped goat cheese with dash of honey - all different textures and flavors and all excellent.

There are occasional specials so keep an ear out for interesting dishes like lamb tangine! The roasted mushrooms are also a favorite, a long with the skewers.

Wonderful neighborhood hang. I take friends here for the chill local vibe wow factor!
