An iconic landmark for the Hispanic community. Unfortunately, over the years, this little neighborhood market has not seen a lot of love from the city. It still has amazing food like fresh tamales, carnitas, tortillas and cabeza. You can still get delicious menudo in a large cup or bring in your own pot to fill. Diehards travel from all over southern California for this hidden gem. Go check them out and support small business. Even the exterior mural is a must see.

La Favorita Tortilleria is a family-owned spot that has been serving delicious tamales for decades. Despite its humble appearance, the quality of the masa preparada is consistently great. Customers drive from far away for the pork and chicken tamales. The homemade tostadas are considered the best in L.A., making it a great choice for those making pozole or needing tostadas with meat or veggies. During the holidays, the staff is friendly and helpful, but knowing some basic Spanish can be handy. The prices are reasonable at $1.75/lb. Although a recent experience with hard hominy in the menudo was disappointing, this longtime customer is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt due to their longstanding positive experiences. Many also enjoy the tasty carnitas, tortillas, and the authentic feel of the food, making it a must-visit for Mexican food lovers.
