About Lugya'h by Ponchos Tlayudas

Based on reviews, Lugya'h by Ponchos Tlayudas is located in the Maydan market, a cool area with lots of great food options. The food is outstanding, absolutely delicious, and everything is cooked perfectly. The tlayuda is huge, super filling, and has a wonderful crunch and cheesy pull. A standout item is the blood sausage (moranga), which has an incredible herbal flavor. The mole turkey leg is tender, juicy, and richly flavored. Other popular choices include the 3 meat tlayuda with cecina, chorizo, and moranga, as well as the tasajo and chorizo. The seasoning of the meat is on point. The owner is incredibly friendly and the sweetest, holding the cookout in a backyard. The atmosphere is great, described as a no thrills, no frills food stand. However, the food can be very delayed, with some waiting over an hour, and the price is a little steep for the amount of meat given. Parking is difficult to find in South Central.

I got the tasajo which was already good but omg the moronga was DELICIOUS. I am usually not a fan of blood sausages or blood related food but this was so smooth, tender, savory and flavorful. If I didn’t already know it was a blood sausage I would have never guessed. The serving is huge if you eat standard servings you could easily split a portion but we got greedy.

Highly recommended just for the fact that they changed my mind about blood sausage.

I recently visited Lugya'h by Ponchos Tlayudas and had an excellent experience enjoying authentic Oaxacan cuisine. The restaurant offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes it a great place to discover traditional Mexican flavors. The menu highlights classic Oaxacan dishes, with their tlayudas being the standout specialty. I tried one of their signature tlayudas, and it was absolutely delicious with a perfectly crisp tortilla, flavorful toppings, and fresh ingredients....read full review
The three meat tlayudas are so fire, as is the mole empanada. The shared interior with the other eateries made it a fun experience!
