Danbi Korean Restaurant offers a solid and delicious Korean dining experience in Los Gatos, a city not normally known for its Korean cuisine. The restaurant has a very nice modern and casual feel with a great atmosphere, featuring K-Pop playing at a non-intrusive volume. While its trendy look might suggest Korean fusion, the dishes and flavors remain authentically not fusion. The menu includes comforting and yummy items like galbi tang, dwen jang jjigae, Beef Hot Stone Pot, Beef Bi Bim Bop, Tteokbokki, and Seafood Pancake. The dwen jang jjigae is a vegetable soup with firm tofu and udon noodles, noted as a comforting dish, while the Tteokbokki has a delightful texture and spice. The Seafood Pancake is delicious and fried to a perfect crunch.
Portions are quite good for the price, though the galbi tang portion size felt a bit small with only two to three pieces of short rib. The restaurant is accommodating, creatively modifying dishes like the Beef Bi Bim Bop with tofu substituting for rice for low-carb needs. Service is generally friendly, efficient, attentive, and professional, with very quick seating even on a weekend. After an initial slow moment, service becomes very good. Condiments and fresh, spot-on side dishes like kimchi, cucumber, daikon, and bean sprouts are presented almost immediately. The drink menu is deep, featuring Korean beers, Soju, and other Korean cocktails.
Located a little bit hidden off the main downtown drag, this convenient location in the heart of downtown Los Gatos adds an intimate charm. The clean and comfortable restaurant has plenty of seating, is family friendly, and includes authentic touches like covered place settings on empty tables. It is considered a gem and a wonderful new addition to the neighborhood, with guests planning to return again and again to try more of the menu.
