Love their 肉夹馍 the most! Comparable to the ones I've had in China. Would recommend trying it.

I stopped by here a while back on my way up from the South Bay. I had the cilantro beef... it was super dry, took probably 25min to bring out and the staff was somewhat rude and hard to communicate with. All of this together I would have probably given 2 stars but I'm not in the business of trashing a business on Yelp as stuff like this usually catches up to the restaurant. What drove me to post this is that the owner has recently been tearing down other restaurants in the area on another online forum. While also flaunting that he does not tip the wait staff, although he is a frequent visitor. Even after the restaurant was notified and went above and beyond (fully refunding his bill) he is doing 100x the damage to them by dragging their reputation through the mud online. With that, I was motivated to share my review and experience because this person should focus on their own business rather than repeatedly visiting mid level bar in sf, not tip their staff, then do major damage to their reputation online.

I really enjoyed their smorked (smoked pork) and bamboo dish and the general's noodles. The string beans with the eggplant were cooked perfectly; I've had a lot of places have trouble with the string beans as of late. The "smorked" fried rice looked pretty good and would be willing to return or order take out to try. They forgot our second order of rice, but we did fine without it.

Award winning restaurant, distinct from other Hunan and Szechuan restaurants. Cilantro beef: very thinly sliced beef, almost like a tenderloin in texture but different. Tastes like a baking soda or mango enzyme tenderized beef but very tender but not mushy. V. hard to replicate. The tenderized beef absorbs more flavor. One of the best sellers. Very distinct. Onion bread: fluffy. Different with layers. Not replicated in any other bay area restaurant I have seen. Almost every table orders this. Northern style = bread, south=rice. Bok choy w/ shitake. not on menu. Order some veggie to cut the spice levels. Winter melon soup with pork rib: WM cooked perfectly. Not mushy. Good light broth flavor from the ribs. Used to cut the spice. Godfather noodles: spicy and salty. Very distinct. Not overpowered with fermented bean sauce; meaty. hard to pin down the taste. Impossible to replicate at home. Many layers of flavor. One of the signature dishes. Freshly made noodles. Chewy. Back of the throat spicy vs. burning tongue spicy. Large menu try the steamed fish special. This is very distinct from the other Hunan restaurants who have a common menu of deep fried chili chicken, chili fish, etc..

Stopped in with my cousin one rainy afternoon after he picked me up from the airport. It was quiet inside and there was plenty of seating available. We sat by the window in the front. We ordered the Smork with Leeks and the Boiling Hot Fish Fillets. We were served some hot tea as well--a must-have for the weather. The smork was as advertised--smoky and flavorful. A perfect contrast to the leeks! The fish was tender and spicy. I was so glad that these were our picks that day! But I have a feeling you can't go wrong with their options.

Came back to have brunch again. Service is always attentive and very warm people. We ordered 3 things. Eggplant with garlic sauce is a go- to. Smoke with leeks is new to me. But super flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend. If you like tofu you will like the iron skillet tofu with onions. Came up sizzling hot! We have to come back for sure.

Visited here last night for a meal with my daughter. We were quickly shown a table. Pleasant waitstaff - they were hustling working the entire restaurant floor with just the two of them. Always catching eye and attentive to the tables needs-I was impressed as the restaurant was full. We enjoyed the smork (pork) fried rice, the chili fried chicken and the cilantro beef. All three plates were delish and so plentiful we have lunch for today. Wonderful was Wonderful!

The reason I gave them only 1 star is waitress said the 18% tip was added before tax, but we found that they made us pay 9.375% tax after they added the tip to the purchase subtotal (see the receipt I attached). We felt cheated! Won’t come again although food and service were good.

Stopped by here this week to pick up lunch after seeing the great reviews and the Michelin Bib Gourmand here! I showed up early, but they were super speedy with the order and I definitely appreciated it! Lots of seating in this restaurant that seems a bit packed in, but it was completely empty when I was there - so kind of worked out! The food here was a 3.5 stars for me...we ordered: 1. Beijing jjajang meean - I was craving jjajang myun and saw this on the menu so I couldn't resist...boy was it salty though! I would definitely pass on this next time.. 2. Godfather's Noodles - the hand-rolled noodles are AMAZING, but this minced pork sauce was also super salty to me. Feeling sad since this was so highly rated by everyone else...poops! 3. Green Onion pancake - I REALLY liked the green onion big pancake. It was like a big loaf of bread ...and I do love all carbs, so basically this was an easy favorite! 4. Beef noodle soup - my favorite noodle dish of the 3 we ordered. The soup was perfectly seasoned and the beef wasn't overcooked. There was some questioning on whether or not the dishes had msg in it...but I didn't get crazy thirsty in the middle of the night, so the verdict is still out. 5. Smork Fried Rice - The smork was legit good..but the rest of the rice was kind of flavorless to me. Still had really good reviews on yelp, so maybe it's just me?? Overall good experience! Pro tip - if you are going to get this to-go, just call in the order and don't use a platform like ubereats or doordash cuz the prices get a bit outrageously inflated. Save yourself some money!!
