Bakesale Betty was the first iconic place to serve gourmet fried chicken in the East Bay. Sandwiches come loaded with delicious slaw (no mayo), on a fantastic bun or in a salad.
Secret menu: Fried tofu sandwich. Might be better than the chicken!

Desserts to die for:
Strawberry shortcake
Strawberry rhubarb pie
Apple pie
Ginger cookies.

Only open limited hours, no seating.

If you love shortbread cookies this is the spot. I recommended the chocolate chip walnut. For me I love their pies. Their crumbles are so damn delicious. Also you wouldn't expect it but they have salads and chicken sandwiches which are fantastic.

If you haven’t been to Bakesale Betty, you’re
missing out on something truly special. I ordered the apple rhubarb crumble pie and the strawberry shortcake, and both were absolutely phenomenal.

What stood out most was the balance — not overly sweet, but rich in flavor and incredibly fresh. The crumble topping on the pie had just the right crunch, and the filling was perfectly tart and comforting. As for the strawberry shortcake, it was hands-down the best I’ve ever had — light, fluffy, and full of real strawberry flavor without being sugary.

I’ve had my fair share of desserts, but these two stand out as some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re anywhere near Oakland!

The famous fried chicken sandwich is legendary for a reason! The line looks long but moves pretty fast. The coleslaw is a perfect touch

Can't Beat the Food and Desserts!

They're known for their chicken sandwiches, and for food reason, they're some of the best you can get! Everyone, one of their baked goods that I've tried, had been amazing. If you haven't, you need to try it. Just make sure to get there early!

Pretty good fried chicken sandwich, but it’s over priced. Was better years ago, now it’s not worth going to honestly. $13.60 plus tax for a decent chicken sandwich isn’t worth it, especially with the wait you typically need to deal with. One of the most over rated spots in the bay. Plus they’re only open 3.5hr a day, 4 days a week, Thursday thru Sunday which is just bizarre.

Over $16 out the door for just the sandwich would be forgivable if it were exceptionally good (it wasn't) or if the store had any seating (it didn't).

You'll order at a folding table in front of the store, and get your food in a bag with nowhere to eat it, and no bathroom to use. Even food trucks have figured out how to pop up some tables and chairs, let alone a brick and mortar storefront!

As for the sandwich, it came with good bread, a slightly dry patty, and enough coleslaw for 2-3 sandwiches. No sauce, pickles, mayo, etc.

All of that would have been alright if cost half as much, but at premium prices it's unreasonable.

Easily one of the least enjoyable fried chicken sandwiches I've had in the Bay.

Delicious fried chicken sandwich, with a generous portion of chicken breast and coleslaw. Best fried chicken sandwich in town.
