Sort of a hole-in-the-wall vibe, but fantastic food and friendly

Eating here is like eating back home on the island. The chicken is so flavorful and tender, the habichulas remind me of my mom's recipe, and the arroz con grandules are spot on ? I've tried the few puerto rican restaurants in the area and I always find myself coming back to this one the most !Da ca Boricua!

I ordered the combination: CAMARONES a la CRIOLLA (Shrimp Stew) with the Puerto Rican rice, maduros (ripe) plantain, and a KOLA Champagne Soda. This was a hearty meal, much needed after a 6 mile hike. The portion size was OK, but it could have been more for the price. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal as we listened to the entertaining playlist of music.I absolutely love fried plantain, so I ordered a side to go and enjoyed it later at home as my dessert ? ?Parking: Free parking lot in the back of the restaurant. Free street parking in the front of the restaurant.

The PR restaurant I've been looking for since I moved out here. The pasteles are amazing! Everything tastes homemade. The best PR restaurant I've been to in almost 20 years!

First time trying Puerto Rican food. Had it delivered by Uber eats. I decided to try some classic dishes and was not disappointed. The Mofongo de Pollo Encebollado was super tasty and satisfying. The beef Empanadilla was also flavourful. I've had sweet plantains (maduros) many times and usually order them as my dessert. Great tasting meal. I will definitely order delivery again or visit in person next time.

Empandillas were a 8/10 Arroz con gandules 2/10 only bc it was dry and lacked a lot of flavor. It tasted as if it was cooked in such a huge batch that the flavor was lacking badly. I've been here before but when they were in the liquor store- it was better back then.

I hate to break it to everyone, but, this kind of Puerto Rican food is supposed to be for the working man... Why is Mofongo $20?

Authentic Puerto Rican food made, fresh ingredients, and customer service that is more family than customer-staff dynamic. Let me already say "you're welcome" now after you read this review and visit.

If possible this place would get no stars. Very poor customer service and questionable business practices. I called to place an order for some pernil and chicharron de pollo. After placing the order the gentleman requested my card information to do the transaction. Very weird! I told him that I don't handle transactions like that as I don't feel comfortable giving out my card info in such a way. I then went on to say that I'll settle up when I arrive and his response was hopefully the pernil would still be there when I arrive. At this point he was clearly trying to run game lol. I said have a blessed day and hung up on him. Definitely won't be back and I wouldn't recommend anyone else to go there.

Yummy!! Got a meal to go and can't wait to come back! Looove the creamy sauce as well as the fruity one. I love plaintains and this is the best way to eat them, with pork and rice and beans imo. This meal was on the greasy side, but treat yourself every now and then! I can tell they make it to order because there was a bit of a wait, but ultimately it was worth it. Street parking was ok on a weekend night.

We ordered the chicken encebollado and the camarones combo with tostones and both were top notch. The chicken moist and tender, and the shrimp coated in a flavorful tomato-based sauce. Although we came for the pernil (runs out by 3pm), I'm glad we gave these two dishes a try because I would definitely order them again whenever I'm craving something a little lighter. The owner Cheo is friendly and social, and keeps the small place fun and lively. He'll tell you some good stories if you lend him an ear and ask the right questions. Already dreaming of my return to order more of the same plus some potato croquettes (also ran out). Oh and most importantly, gotta pair the food with La Perla East Bay Lager from Del Cielo Brewery in Martinez. Perfect match!
