The Oakland Athletic Club is a sports bar that has reopened in Oakland, just in time for the World Cup. The space is cleaner and sharper than before with fresh energy. Seating covers every vibe: bar stools, booths, high tables, and a mezzanine VIP area ideal for larger groups. There isn't a bad view in the house. The staff is super friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment you walk in, even on a packed game day.
The upgraded menu earns serious praise. The half chicken is a standout — juicy, well-seasoned, the kind of dish that's both satisfying and comforting in the best way. The bean and rice bowl is equally impressive: fresh, hearty, and far above what you'd expect from a sports bar. The burger with Chihuahua cheese was great, and the oxtail fries were delicious. The mac and cheese was really tasty, and the cornbread was liked. The 36 hr slow cook brisket was worth every bite. Other dishes were solid as well. Lots of beers to choose from.
However, the portion sizes are really small on most things. The black beans and rice is tiny, and the cornbread was half a portion. It also took over an hour for the food to arrive, so patience is needed, especially on a busy day. There are lots of screens for World Cup games, with a great TV set up. The vibes are great, and it is a community sports bar.
