I'm from the East Coast (NY) and recently my Brother in-law and I visited a few cities in the state of California. First, we spent a few days visiting family in Los Angeles and Santa Ana. At the last minute of booking the trip, my Brother in-law decided he wanted to visit an old college buddy named Roderick (Roddy) in Oakland. He mentioned that Roddy had a BBQ restaurant named Roderick's BBQ. So the plan was to fly down from Santa Ana to San Francisco, make the drive to Oakland and spend our final evening in California hanging out with Roddy at his restaurant. I didn't know what to expect because I had never met him. Well, he rolled out the red carpet along with some of the finest food (not just BBQ) you will ever have in your life. You name it, we had it, and it all tasted incredible. Ribs, Tri-Tip, BBQ Chicken, Hot Links, Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, French Fries, Mac & Cheese, and Potato Salad. The Ribs were tender and perfectly cooked, as was the BBQ Chicken. The Tri-Tip was tender and just melted in your mouth. The Hot Links had the perfect amount of flavor and heat. The fried chicken and catfish was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and tasted great. The french fries had a light dusting of their in-house seasoning that was absolutely amazing. The Potato Salad and Mac & Cheese was incredible as well and to wash it all down was some of the most amazing Kool-Aid ever. The type of Kool-Aid that takes you back to your childhood. You better believe the next time I'm on the West Coast, I'm getting me some Roderick's BBQ. This place is a hidden gem and if you live in the Oakland area, you should run (not walk) to Roderick's BBQ immediately and try some of this amazing food. If you live 1-2 hours away, it's definitely worth the drive. Pull up a chair, enjoy the food, and tell Roddy that Chris and Sean sent you and he'll take good care of you. Plus, he's a great guy, a great storyteller, but he's an even better cook.Kudos to Roderick's BBQ!!!

OMG! I'm vegetarian ? but my daughter and I stumbled upon this awesome barbecue place on the way to the Oakland Zoo, and on the way home, we stopped there because she was hungry. She got a chicken sandwich, and she doesn't usually finish her food (she's 6), but she did when we got home, which never happens! Also, their fries and coleslaw were *chef's kiss* ?.They gave us a free sample of the mac and cheese, and holy cow, I was in HEAVEN ?. We will definitely be back, probably with my husband, who was disappointed that he didn't get to finish our daughter's sandwich. ?The owner also came out and chatted with us. Super nice guy. Overall, just a great vibe. ?Vegetarian options: Mac and cheese is to die for. ?? Great coleslaw and fries, too. ?

Roderick’s really nailed it! I had the sampler plate and it was delicious. Ribs, tri-tip, chicken and hot links were all superb. The collard greens were the best I’ve ever had. Beans were delicious as well. A group of us ate inside and it was like a party. Rod and his son were very cordial and welcomed everyone with open arms. A classy barbecue joint all the way. Can’t wait to get back! A+

Called at 345pm today and asked for links, fried fish, chicken, mac and cheese and greens. They said let me call you back in 15min to see if we can do this order.30 min later I called back and they didnt remember we spokee. I gave them the order again and they said they couldnt tell me a price, I couldnt get links, but everything else would be ready at 6.I show up at 630 and they said they have no food ready. They never got my order and the place is closed although google says they close at 7. Needless to say I left empty handed with no food.I love the food here, but whoever answers the phones needs to fired ASAP.

Takeout order of the 3 meat platter with chicken, ribs, and links. They didn't include the link.Chicken was rubbery, ribs were tough. Flavor was good on both, a bit salty on the ribs. Sides of yam and collard were solid. Had the cobbler which was tasty! This place came highly recommended but ended up being a bit overly hyped.

I got the 3 meats combo with 2 sides. BBQ ribs, BBQ chickens, and BbQ trị tips. Greens and Mac-Cheese. I also got a Large blue/cheery Kool-aid and Medium Purple Haze Kool-Aid. The total came out to about $51 dollars. Overpriced, food was alright but not how people made it out to be. But I know everybody has different taste buds. The chicken was juicy, the ribs and tri tips. Hmmm it's ok. I wasn't a fan of the greens I believe it was over seasoned. Mac cheese were ok. BBQ sauce good. I'll definitely come back to try something different on the menu.

The place is a nice joint, before I tasted the food, I envisioned a small summer lunch on the nice back porch.I didn’t look at my food until I arrived at my destination, I had the hot link sandwich, the link was spicy and the sauce was mild, a great combination. It was on a round bun, not a (hamburger) there was a lot of meat and just enough sauce. It was the best link sandwich I ever had, I can’t wait to try something else. The collard green were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Great food.

2708 98th Ave, Oakland, CA 94605 Wow, I've been missing out! This is Roderick's BBQ Restaurant on 98th Ave, up near the I-580 freeway. This place is usually closed when I drive by, but I had a chance to visit on a Saturday. OMG, a real BBQ place. I ordered the Chicken & Ribs Combo Dinner Meal, with Collard Greens and Baked Beans for sides. Very generous servings! Also, got two rolls and lots of napkins. No complaints about the sides. The BBQ Chicken was boneless dark meat. Absolutely perfectly cooked chicken. Moist and tender. If I only ordered BBQ Chicken, this would be a 5-star review. However, the BBQ Ribs were dry and tough. All the sauce in the world can't fix overcooked BBQ ribs. Sadly, I couldn't chew it and had to toss half of it away. But I promise to return, and maybe just order BBQ Chicken and something else....and bump my rating up! Support Local Business!

Kind of a barebones interior but sometimes that's all you need. The ribs and peach cobbler were amazing, and some of the best collard greens I've had in awhile!
