This is some of the best Ethiopian food in Oakland. The veggie platter is super delicious and you get a ton of food so it's very filling. Plus the owner is really nice and the service is super fast. I highly recommend it.

So good! I checked out this place for lunch, and was surprised how prompt customer service was. I definitely recommend coming here, and trying out the Shrimp Tib. I’ll be coming back in the future. Also, customer service is always important to me, so when I saw the owner help bring the customer’s food inside after a incident I was pleased. Thank you, for welcoming me inside your beautiful restaurant. ❤️

I stopped by here with my team from the office during lunch today and had a delicious meal. I highly recommend this spot to folks who might be looking for a good lunch place downtown. The folks that work here are so nice and the food is tasty and fresh, and also a really great value. Check them out! I know it's been a really tough for small businesses in the downtown area with Covid and so many folks still working remotely, so I know they would appreciate our business. 5 stars!

Yammy is the nickname of the mastermind of this very good Ethiopian place in the Historic part of Downtown Oakland. Yammy (or Yamrot) is also the chef and has a lot of interesting Ethiopian based lunch dishes that are enjoyable. Had the pleasure of having lunch here a few days ago and her kitchen was open and we basically ordered tapas style and the dishes were served with injera (that spongy starch that is served in late as of bread). Although I don't really like injera, the dishes here were so good that I wasn't distracted by that as the flavors here were out of this world. For appetizers, we had a meat sambussa that was pleasantly crispy, fresh tasting and complimented by a superb chili sauce that I loved (5/5). For the main dishes, us three hungry men ordered the following served with injera: Dish #1: Doro Tibs: This is a flavorful dish of chicken, lots of onions and garlic and jalapeños in a very intriguing sauce cooked in ghee and flavored with cardamoms, maybe even a hint of cinnamon and a bunch of other excellent spices. This was my favorite dish (5/5) Dish #2: I believe my friend orders the veggie combo which is a lighter plate with various delights including what looked like stewed collards, hummus, two types of lentils and a few other healthy items (5/5) Dish #3: the last dish was a lamb dish of some sort cooked with a lot of onions and had other flavors. It was pretty good but I'm not a big lamb eater. I enjoyed the is though. Yammy was very hospitable, likeable, sweet and informative about her dishes and very much a queen of flavor and wonderful conversationalist. Her charisma along with her many wonderful dishes makes this a place I cannot wait to go to again.

My favorite lunch spot that is walking distance from my work in Jack London Square. It's a black-owned business with the most delightful and caring owner. She makes it a point to remember faces, treat people with kindness, and fuel people with food that's made with care. Since the beginning of the Pandemic, Yammy's Cafe increased their footprint by offering a 10-seat parklet for people who wish to dine outside. It makes it a perfect spot for folks who wish to bring a fur baby or are still not fully comfortable with indoor dining. The cafe itself has enough room to fill 25-30 folks comfortably. My favorite items are the Begue Tibs (Lamb) and the Veggie Combination. For a good $12.99, your meal comes with injera and a cup of water. Make sure to tip them generously, as they are one of the last spots, that I am aware of, that haven't increased their premises since the Pandemic and the 8% inflation.

Their veggie combo is my absolute favorite in the East Bay and I've tried a lot of places. It's fresh, well-balanced, and very flavorful. They don't skimp on the ingredients either. You'll get a mix of veggies and greens, not just like giant chunks of potatoes, for example. I love their injera too because of how light it is. I've also tried their vegan tibs and I recommend that too. Another reason that I love this place is that every time I go in there, it always brightens my day with how warm and genuine they are. It seems like they put a lot of love and care in their food, which is such a gift to experience!

Arrived when they opened at 11am on a Wednesday and we were only customers the entire time We had the Veggie Combo and Gomen Be Sega (because she said this was the only meat dish available) Both were excellent and she gave us extra Injera bread Thus location is very nice and an easy walk to 12th street bart

Have ordered and PAID for only 3 separate orders on 3 separate days from Yammy's. All 3, a.k.a. 100% of the time, the order was cancelled last minute only to leave me scrambling for meals for myself and company. Each time I have to check my credit card 10 days later to see if the charge was there. Perhaps this restaurant can handle walk-ins, but they entire fail to handle online orders. Please remove yourself from online orders if you are not able to fulfill orders whatsoever. These cancellations have cost me a lot of out-of-pocket cash in last-minute food orders elsewhere.
