Emily at Root of Happiness in Rancho Cordova is the kind of kavatender who turns a first visit into a favorite place. She has that rare mix of warmth, knowledge, humor, and calm presence that makes you feel welcome the second you walk in.
She knows the menu, understands the vibe, and makes great recommendations without ever making you feel rushed or out of place. Whether you’re brand new to kava or already know what you like, Emily makes the experience easy, comfortable, and genuinely enjoyable.
What really stands out is how intentional she is. She doesn’t just serve drinks. She creates an atmosphere. She makes the room feel lighter, friendlier, and more connected. Root of Happiness is lucky to have her, and anyone who gets served by Emily is getting the best version of what a kava bar should be: relaxed, kind, welcoming, and full of good energy.
Five stars for Emily. Honestly, she deserves more.
This location has the best atmosphere in my opinion and that's in large part due to the great staff. Emily always makes sure everyone feels welcomed and provides excellent customer service.

The root of happiness in Rancho Cordova always has the best vibes. The staff is always friendly and welcoming and they all deserve their accolades but a stand out is Emily. Emily greets everyone with a smile, remembers their orders, and the last conversation she had with them. She truly makes the kava bar a more relaxing and enjoyable environment.

We've been coming her for several years, but hadn't visited this location in a while. We enjoyed seeing that they had expanded with a new seating room and a space for music. We always enjoy a good kava drink straight up or a mix with juice. This time Malia was our server. She's has a great personality, very out going, positive vibe and pleasant smile. As she served us our drinks, she made sure we toasted saying Bula! My husband and I kicked back for a couple hours enjoying the vibe while sipping our drinks.
We'll definitely be back again soon!

The environment is very, very suspicious in here. They should be open to more normal people. Feels like a hospital.
Love the people and all of kava cultures environment. I throughly enjoy going here and have for awhile now. All employees except a select few seemed annoyed by my questions because security likes to bully me. Makes me concerned to bring up any questions with them. I shouldn’t be concerned with how my kava is made here at this specific location. I wish the owner checked on his staff more.

Lighting at the register is a bit dim, and it's difficult to read the menu.
Root of Happiness lives up to its name. It's a perfect spot to unwind, meet interesting people, and try something out of the ordinary. I’ll definitely be back.
Worst service possible. We come here every time and I had my ID and my boyfriend who has a rewards account only had a picture of it. The light skin girl with curly hair is new and just did not provide the same service and hospitality. He is 27 and I’m flattered you think he’s under 18 but you can easily verify it with a picture of it or just look up his account. You guys don’t scan IDS ANYWAY. There is not really a difference in picture or physical. It’s the fact that you are not consistent in asking for them other wise we would have made it a point to bring his. I had my ID and she still didn’t try to accommodate. It just is annoying after a long day of work and you go to a place you always go to and a new girl just acts so rude. Like she didn’t even try to be nice about like say sorry. Sorry goes a long way. Will not be coming back.
