Escargot was pretty good. Didn’t expect gravy in Rack of lamb or marmalade in duck l’orange. Overall OK.

La vie will definitely exceed your expectations being that it is a small unassuming restaurant in the not so boosie edge of South San Gabriel. Delicious escargo and a wide variety of desserts. My favorite the fresh fruit sabyon have sadly taken off the menu for some reason. The vietnamese family that owns it takes great pride in they're cooking and Mastered the art in France. The newer heavyset hostess guy (sorry if i misused the pronoun) is kinda rude and Absolutely dreaded and contested my cash payment due to the pandemic.
The food here is amazing and prices are reasonable, steak is very tender and mashed potatoes are very tasty, worth the drive from San Diego.

Local gem. Comfort French food with delicious flavor, reasonable price. Lovely family-owned business worth to support.

Great French food at a reasonable price! Must try the escargot, smoked trout, pate, rabbit, sea bass, and of course the Grand Marnier Soufflé!

Like eating a TV dinner in a rec center hall. My chicken (coq au vin) was all ligaments and very tough, gravy was thin and near flavorless... not representative of the dish at all. However, my husband's lamb was cooked perfectly, so compliments are due here. Otherwise terrible. The staff was friendly and attentive, they did a great job until check out. The people are awesome, until they get bored and sucked into the phones. Atmosphere, at the prices, could certainly be improved. Sorry. I always have high hopes for the hole in the wall.

Restaurantji Recommends
I am French, and for me this establishment does not deserve to be part of French gastronomy!
We ate for 4 people:
- The bread was mediocre. Racit, dry, denature
- the accompaniments were of poor quality, no taste
- the meat and sauce of coq au vin and sweetbreads. Very bad
I strongly recommend this establishment to anyone with a little taste and refinement.

I haven't been this disappointed in a restaurant in a long time. I ordered the rabbit in wine and I didn't taste any wine at all; the sauce that covered it was extremely salty and briny and reminded me of that gravy sauce I used to have for school lunch that no one ever finished and no amount of water could quench my thirst. The escargot was also very salty and it tasted like briny clams. Overall, just SALT SALT SALT.And while I appreciate the gestures they threw in like the bread, soup, and salad, I would rather they increase the portion size b/c I also ordered the chilean sea bass and it was way too small for the price (36.99); if I had known about the price, I would not have ordered it. I also don't understand what they were going for with the "salad;" it was 3 huge pieces of lettuce leaves smothered in sauce and a random tomato. I tried googling French salads to see if maybe I made a mistake but I saw nothing like that anywhere and that chunk of bread became as hard as a rock and dry as sand after like 30 minutes. And the restaurant is about as lively as a corpse. The lights were off the whole time and I thought the place was closed at first and after eating here, I wish they had been. Judging by the clientele, I think this place is best suited for retired folks. The ceiling also has pretty bad water stains and the ceiling tiles were very old and worn and need to be replaced. I nearly got a heart attack seeing the bill and I gave a tip because the staff are not at fault for the poor food and dingy settings but this is a place I would rather forget that I ever went to. I came here to celebrate my mother's birthday and even she was speechless afterwards and not in a good way.
