Apple fritter review #7: Glaze: light, but not in a bad way. 3.5 stars. Outside: crispy enough on the edges, less so in the middle, but I'm not mad at it. 3.5 stars. Inside: light and fluffy and just moist enough. 4 stars. Filling: very little apple filling but the pieces are good sized. 3.5 stars. I can give them four stars. The donut holes are quite good, the flavor is nice, it's either a lot of vanilla or maybe some almond.
I have been coming here off and on for 40 years and have never been disappointed with the donuts. The buttermilk bars are phenomenal and the maple bars and glazed donuts are the best around. The service isn't always perfect, but I cut them some slack for having run this business everyday for decades while starting their workday when many of us are just going to bed. I mean, it's a donut place. Nothing fancy here, but solid standard doughnuts. This just happens to be the closest doughnuts to my work, and it does the trick. If you're close and want some decent doughnuts, give it a go, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get these specific doughnuts.
