Our very favorite weekend gay bar! We arrive early in the night and usually stay until after midnight. Great staff, we love our bartender Chris!! Great casual handout with good music (a digital jukebox) and good people. They pour strong, cheap drinks too!

We played a couple rounds of pool here and I got an apple martini which was super strong. It's unfortunate that this place is cash only with a high ATM fee and it costs $3 to play 1 game of pool. Drinks are not too expensive so that's a plus. It's also cool that this bar is in a Victorian house.

I stopped in Sacramento while visiting my girlfriend. I was looking for a quick spot for us to grab drinks and the Mercantile was recommended to us. The atmosphere was nice, we really liked the old school theme. However, after walking up to the bar it took forever to be greeted. Monnica introduced herself and we then ordered our drinks. they had very little alcohol. We asked about this and she said she did it correctly then rolled her eyes. Unfortunately, we left right after that interaction and it was too bad because we were looking forward to trying out this gay bar.

I love this place everyone is so cool, friendly. The bartender was great. They brought in a skinny one that's rude and doesn't know how to pour a drink . very weak. I will NOT be there while she's working. She was on her phone texting away while me and my sister waited for her to help us. Tina said (my sister) send her back to school.

Safe environment to be queer, the drinks have a heavy (and delicious) pour- a great bang for your buck! Everyone was very friendly and provided quick service.

What bizarro world is this? $6 for a 12 oz bottle of bud light? Is this my Merc? Feels like things might have changed. Awfully quiet over here right now too.

You really get a bang for your buck. If you want a cup of liquor, you got it. I spent $10 on a drink and straight profited with the amount of booze I was given. I love this place. Please visit.

Didn't even make it in the door. The security was unable to properly scan my I.D. because of a crack in the back and when asked if he could just read my I.D. (because I was sure it would not scan after like 15 tries) he said no. I told him okay I will go elsewhere and reached to retrieve my I.D. ...he moved it above his head beyond my reach and said he was joking. He then handed me my ID back and told me I could go elsewhere with my attitude.

The Mercantile is one of my favorite bars in Midtown. I live in the Bay Area and anytime I come up. I love to go there. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. I have one major complaint about The Merc and that is the condition of the bathrooms. The bathrooms are disgusting, not well maintained, and in need of a complete remodel. To the owners of The Merc, show you respect your customers by putting some money into those bathrooms.

Every single experience I've had at the Merc has been positive.. except tonight. My friend and I left, went outside, and ate a hot dog from the hot dog stands. As we were walking back into the Merc, I tripped over the sewer drainage in the middle of their parking lot and twisted my ankle, falling down pretty hard. Instead of offering to help me back up, the security guard looked at my friend and told her, 'oh we can't let her back in,' as if being drunk was the reason why I tripped and not because of the FACT that their parking lot dips down into a grated sewage manhole.

For a gay bar, it is disappointing to find that the clientele is well over 50% straight women.
