About Bisbas Restaurant

Bisbas Restaurant is a family-owned Somali spot in San Diego widely regarded as the best of its kind. It offers a warm, welcoming, and well-designed atmosphere with great hospitality, where guests are greeted with a smile. The menu is expansive and authentic, featuring bold, fresh, and perfectly balanced flavors that taste like home cooked food. Dishes come in massive, shareable portions. Standout items include the extremely tender Goat Mandi with a fall-off-the-bone texture, the delicious Chicken Suqaar with an addicting grilled flavor, and the masterpiece half chicken with rice, marinated in rich Somali spices and grilled to juicy perfection. The platter for four, loaded fries, calooley, and Somali spiced tea (shaah) are also highlighted. The fluffy, fragrant, and extremely flavorful rice is a constant praise, perfectly complemented by the spicy, herby, creamy green bisbas sauce or chutney, described as addictive and absolute fire. While the goat can occasionally be a bit dry, the overall delicious and flavorful experience makes Bisbas a must-visit for a genuine cultural experience, and the community greatly benefits from its presence.

This was our first time trying Somali food, and it definitely won’t be our last! We asked the staff what they recommended, and every suggestion was excellent.

The whole fried fish was perfectly crispy with amazing flavor, the halal buffalo fries were spicy and delicious, and the sambusas were some of the best we’ve had. We also tried a drink we’d never had before that tasted like a mix between Dr Pepper and grape soda, and it was surprisingly refreshing!

Bisbas is a deeply authentic Somali restaurant in San Diego with a savory and varying menu.

During our visit, we tried the Sambusa, Platter for 2 and their BBQ boneless wings. As our side, we ordered a salad and enjoyed their Vimto and mango drink.

Out of all the things we tried, their lamb and rice from their platter was the best! The lamb melted in your mouth and the rice was so savory!

10/10!
Bisbas Somali Restaurant is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, and the hospitality made the experience even better.

I started with the fresh salad, which featured cucumbers, red onion, tomatoes, and a bright house-made pomegranate and lemon dressing that was light, refreshing, and packed with flavor. The sambusas were perfectly crispy and golden, with a deliciously seasoned meat filling.

For the main course, I ordered the platter for two with the Goat Haneeth...read full review
