Um. What.
So we've been here once before a few months ago and it was great, so we came back. It went completely different this time.

To start, when we came in, it was empty. First red flag but whatever. Its a Sunday night, maybe thats it. We sit down and get a drink. For 2 drinks it was nearly $40 which is CRAZY.

We start to order some dinner, and halfway thru my order the person taking my order just walks away?? In the middle of my order??? And walks off to take a different group's order who *just* walked in. Doesnt even takes my date's order. Um ok fine I guess we wont order then. Eventually we flag down the bartender and cancel the order. We pay for our 2 drinks and go next door to the Brunette Social where we had a GREAT time.

They charged us $5 for a soda water. Never been charged for that at any bar, even the airport. The Guinness was $12 and it was at best a 12 ounce glass. Also the Guinness poured out already settled. There was no creaminess. Truly appalling establishment

Waitress overwrote the tip I had written and gave herself a $10 tip trash.

$12 for THIS BABY LITTLE GUINNESS? What good is an Irish pub if you can’t even get a PINT??? Ordered a pickleball, with watered down pickle juice - nasty! Which by the way was CHEAPER than the Guinness. Not to mention, it’s a gorgeous 68° in San Diego at 5pm, no AC, no fan…. Just muggy and 80° inside. Take your hard earned coins elsewhere.

Read this - honest review from a visitor.

We are in town for a few days. Today (Sunday) a conference began and Gaslamp is PACKED. Every restaurant on fifth street is bustling.

We head to Blarneystone and it’s almost completely empty. There are two tables seated. That should have been our red flag - but we went in.

The building shares space with the Thai restaurant next door (this is important later). We sit down, and when the bartender comes, she’s - no joke, an 85-90 year old Thai woman…..in an Irish pub.

We ask for food menus. She hands us a menu with about half a dozen American/Irish items. Then she hands us an eight page Thai menu. “It’s right next door! Very good. Very fast,” she proclaims. I’m sure it is good - but I went in for pub fare, not Thai. This is beyond weird.

We pass on food. I order a car bomb, wife orders a pint of Guinness. I receive the most stingy car bomb in history. I get less than a half glass of Guinness, a fine shot of whiskey, topped with Irish crème. The bill is $30 for the two drinks. $17 for the car bomb, and $13 for the pint! A pint of Guinness anywhere else on fifth street is $7.

We finished our round, paid, and ran out. I think it’s obvious the Thai restaurant owner bought out the pub and is trying to run both. It’s not working.

The inside vibe is OK. However, it’s not nearly enough to save this place. Stay away.

Throw you out before bar time. Very rude. Run out of most alcohol before the end of the night. Dont go.

I go here often. The bartender is always great. I only give it four stars because of the atmosphere. It's not exactly an irish pub as much as it is a bar. Great place overall though.
