Ko Kai has been such a blessing to have in San Diego! It is so hard to find restaurants with this type of food made this style! There are other variations of Hainan chicken but nothing close to this one. We have tried it all in San Diego and this one just hits home. Really happy to have stumbled across this stand on the weekend. Khao mun gai is hard to find! Really nice operators, too!
We were thrilled to find this food truck. We were craving some Malaysian food, which downtown San Diego seems to lack when we stumbled upon Robbie and Sara's food truck. Their Hainanese chicken rice with a twist hit the spot. Their crispy pork was incredibly delicious-crunchy yet tender at the same time. Robbie must have heard us exclaim how delicious their sauces were and brought an extra one over for us.

Ko Kai Khao Mun Kai is a Southern Thailand style food truck in San Diego, a must-try and a blessing for the area. The recipe has been passed down generations from a Thai family. Their Hainanese chicken rice, or Khao Mun Kai, is awesome and hits the spot with a deep chicken flavor, served with cucumbers, a ginger sauce, and extra broth. The Khao Mun Kai Tod is also amazing. Other superb items include incredibly delicious crispy pork and crisp pork belly with umami flavor, paired with butter noodles for a great combination. The Thai iced coconut green tea is refreshing and not too sweet.
Service is amazing, fast, and genuinely warm. The owners are super nice. They are typically only open on weekends, operating from a truck with tables and chairs in a grassy area, making eating outside a treat. As a local small food vendor, they deserve all the love. You won’t be disappointed or regret trying this unique food.
