Got off of work early so we decided to try a new place for lunch. We've heard good things about Ponce's so wanted to try them out. We happened to stop by for happy hour which had a special on house margaritas, beer and three street taco flights. We both ended up going for their lunch special which had an array of combination entrees. I had the 1 which consisted of a beef enchilada and crunchy beef taco which was perfect for me. My partner had the 2 which was a cheese enchilada and a wet beef burrito. It wasn't the best Mexican we've had by far and there wasn't any special ingredients inside besides meat and onion but it made for a great lunch. It was everything I wanted and the prices for happy hour were great. Would definitely stop by again.

Pros: friendly staff, food arrived quickly, horchata and margaritas were good Cons: up charge to salt the rim of margaritas which were served in a PINT glass, birria taco plate was just ok, supreme quesadilla did not come in a soft tortilla Even with the Groupon, I would not return as it did not meet my expectations for Mexican food in San Diego.

The staff is excellent and the food is just what you want for Mexican comfort food.Vegetarian options: Recent additions to the menu include Impossible meat substitutions for ? tacos and ? burritos.Parking: There is a parking lot next to the restaurant. It fills up quickly as it is a public lot but there is neighborhood parking as well.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible via ramp and parking.

Great sit down Mexican restaurant, good tequila bar vibe but also family friendly. Food is a bit more pricey than other smaller Mexican shops, but for a sit down, prices were good.Food was great, had to wait a bit but normal for a popular restaurant. Waiters and waitresses were friendly and they cleaned the high chairs after each use.Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs available and the waiters and waitresses wipe them down after each use. Huge thumbs up for that.
I have been eating at many, many Mexican restaurants over the past 60 years and I like almost all of them in San Diego. EXCEPT Ponce's! We took two friends there last night and it was embarrassing. The service was good and the beer/drinks were fine, but the food was TERRIBLE. I ordered the carnitas plate, but the carnitas were inedible - dry and tough. The other three meals were equally as bad and not one of us ate more than a couple of bites - really, really bad food. I apologized to my friends and we will not go back.
