great quality fish
OMG—exceptionally fresh and excellent sushi and other ready to eat Japanese food to-go, this place is slightly under the radar, but once you find it, you’ll be back. Stumbled upon this place when I first moved to San Francisco. Hokkaido Sashimi Marketplace has some of the BEST quality sushi I’ve had since being in Japan. And best of all the prices are fair! They also offer other grocery teams too. My husband & I will keep coming back time and time again.

Hokkaido Sashimi Marketplace is a hidden gem and an unassuming little market. It offers delicious, super fresh sashimi and nigiri, with the best variety of fish available. The quality is good and better than most restaurants. Popular items include the nigiri set, ootoro sashimi, chu toro, and various cuts of bluefin tuna. The sashimi combo provides generous portions. Other options are the hamachi or salmon kama, octopus, and the must-try scallop, as well as Japanese meals and bowls in portable to-go containers. The shop also has a nice selection of Japanese sweets, snacks, frozen goods, and cooking basics like miso and dashi, plus drinks. Prices are reasonable and affordable for takeout, though it can still be expensive; items are priced by weight. They provide a bag of ice for takeout and discount items at closing time. It is a great spot for an easy, healthy, and filling meal or for a party platter.
