This restaurant is very bad, the manager is rude, she treats you badly and starts saying things to you in her language, she was very discriminatory towards me.

This is a no nonsense place. Less salt. Checked. Hugh portion. Checked. Awful neighborhood. Checked. Family owned. There's a lot of food. After getting the lettuce and tomato salad and soup, I'm pretty much full. Two pieces of sourdough bread. Friday's soup is a big bowl of clam chowder. This is as cheap as it gets. $21 for all this food. You can say no flavor, but quantity is the key, but everything seems to be hot and fresh. Fast service. Yes. Prime rib comes with mashed potato and corn. Great big cut and natural and juicy. Perfectly medium rare. Tender and full of fat. Jello at the end of the meal. No fanfare. Diner style. They even serve pancake and sausage at night. The waittress is super friendly. Talks to her customers like old friends.

Love the food and prices. Old fashion home cooked meals. Owners know that they are in a low income neighborhood so they keep their prices affordable and portions big for everyone.

This place is amazing. For the same price as a meal at McDonald's, you can get a four course meal. I don't know how they do it; it's truly an impressive value. Dinners consist of a salad, a soup, fresh sourdough bread, the entrée with likely a side of corn and mashed potatoes, and then finally, if you are lucky, Jell-O dessert. The salad is a simple salad of crisp but watery lettuce topped with a slice of fresh tomato and an equal part of French dressing. The soup is typically a chicken soup with carrots onions and celery with some pasta or barley. There is no meat in the soup though. The entrée ,whatever it is, a generous portion of protein the corn might have been frozen, but it's good and fresh. The mashed potatoes may have come from a box. Do people complain that McDonald's serves food that was frozen or powdered? You're paying 10 to 12 dollars for a meal. It's good food but it's not gourmet. After the entrée, you are supposed to get Jell-O or pudding, but normally the waitress will just bring you the bill instead. Frequently you will only get the dessert if you ask for it. While this is a little defect in their service, if you ate everything that had been brought to you up to that point, you are absolutely stuffed already and really don't need the extra calories. This little dinner is not pretty. The seats need to be re-covered, but the tables are clean. It's not a place to take someone you want to impress unless that person is impressed by extreme value.

I have been going to Lafayette for approx. 10 years. Since the closing of Manor House Restaurant. It's got the best prices in S.F. Selections are great for breakfast. Also serves lunch and dinner. I believe they are open 6 days a week and closed on Saturdays.

There are very few things in life we can depend on. Lafayette Coffee Shop is one of those we can, thank heavens! If you are looking for Filet mignon or Duck a l'Orange you probably won't want to eat at this classic American diner. However, if you are looking for classic American faire this place is surprisingly hold to form. With delicious made to order breakfasts (eggs, meat, hashbrowns, toast) perfect whether you want scrambled or over-medium, over-easy, fried, poached; this is the place to go! The daily specials are so charmingly old school American diner, I could die! They have a delightful burger made like it was in the 1950's, I am sure. Their sandwich options are reasonably gorgeous. The food is fresh, delicious and common! The portions are unbelievable; I generally have enough from one of their specials to put me up for lunch & dinner. Their salad and soups are easy, but very good! The staff is absolutely loving and unforgettable. The atmosphere is not pretentious, but rather subdued and relaxed. I have been eating at this diner since it was on Hyde Street (the large sign still drapes the outside of that original place). I am so glad to have this restaurant feed me when I am in the neighborhood. They are very gracious and cordial and I am a huge fan! - Bryan Vyrdlokkin Abney

What this truly classic coffee shop may lack in quality of coffee it more than makes up for in service & friendliness. Moreover, it still has decent prices for decent portions.Vegetarian options: There aren't many but the fried-egg sandwich is a fun option if you're lacto-ovo.

A spot on example of an unpretentious cheap eat in the tenderloin. Can't beat a prime rib dinner for $20 or a full lumberjack breakfast for less than $15.

Was looking at the menu and saw that they are one of the few spots that serve Beef Short Ribs, and figured I'd try it out. I did, and although they tasted Ok, it wasn't exactly what I expected. Nice size portions, but I'm not really a corn, and mashed potatoes type??. Those are the sides that come with the full dinner, and next time I'll ask if they can substitute?. They claimed that my order was gonna be one of the final ones of the day, due to running out of food?. Must be a really popular place, if that's the case. Next time hopefully they'll have the Scallops available.?

A wonderful, inexpensive all-day restaurant, closed only Saturdays. If liver and onions is one of your things, it's large and perfectly cooked (I got mine NR, as requested--hard to do!)
