Old Shanghai Restaurant

Got take out from this restaurant. The take out Containers are divided for rice and entree and very nice. We had some meatballs, sweet and sour pork, spicy tofu and some spicy eggplant. Everything was really good and tasty. Service is very quick too. And the spicy entrees are not that spicy. The meatballs were stuffed with another meat. We really enjoyed the tofu!

Ordered the Lion's Head meatballs with greens and rice and the eggplant with garlic sauce and rice for lunch. Both were super tasty but heavy with oil. I kind of expect lots of oil whenever I have eggplant (that's just the nature of the dish), but I wish the meatballs had less. I have to say, though, the meatballs were so tender and flavorful, as was the eggplant. If it had a bit less oil, both would have garnered five stars. This is legit, delicious Shanghainese food. They specialize in Shanghainese dishes, must-orders include the XLB soup dumplings (Xiaolongbao), Rice with Salted Pork and Greens (Cai Fan), and Daikon Pastries (Luo Buo Si Bing). The latter two are hard to find and the best in the City, imo. Brought a friend who had moved from Shanghai here, and she was close to tears at the taste of home. Clean interiors and good service are an added bonus.
