We have an annual Holiday brunch with friends at The Palace. This year, again, met our expectations! Compliments to chef and staff.
Exceptional food and service. A wonderful experience to celebrate a birthday, promotion or special occasion!
Went there for afternoon tea with my daughter. The crab small sandwich was amazing. The egg salad had more bread than egg so was disappointed in that. The teas and desserts amazing. I felt the price tag of $195 for what we got was very over priced.
My wife and I left somewhat disappointed. We came here for our 9th anniversary and to celebrate the holidays. We understood that we were paying a bit more for the ambiance, but for the price expected an outstanding level of service and atmosphere. The service was highly disappointing. Our waiter needed to be asked repeatedly to bring us water and the cream and sugar for our tea. We felt like an afterthought. The atmosphere with the tree and the harpist were nice, but for some reason they were actively decorating while we were at tea. What that meant was workers moving equipment around, operating a lift in front of us for most of the tea. I honestly wouldn't mind most of this normally, but given how much extra we paid for holiday tea, I walked away disappointed. The silver lining was that the food and tea were good. Overpriced, but good. I'm glad we can say we had this experience, but I wouldn't do it again or recommend it to anyone else. If you must do tea at the palace, stick to off season.
This felt extremely overpriced. The ambience was a little depressing actually because the place felt empty and not festive and alive. The tea was lukewarm and we had to send it back. The food was not good. And Santa awkwardly sat and chatted with us. The whole thing was kind of strange and quite honestly a bit depressing and way overpriced.
I had complementary breakfast due to the room rate I booked. The breakfast buffet was just okay. There's a lot to choose from, but I definitely wouldn't eat there if it wasn't free. It was really busy, but the staff were all wonderful and did a wonderful job accommodating everyone. Make sure to make reservations for the weekend. However, the location is excellent. I'd recommend it just for that. The hotel in itself is beautiful, but The Garden Court is on another level. I went in late November, and they had just set up the Christmas tree and decorations, which added even more to the experience. Highly recommend!
At $275 per person, you would think this place would know how to prepare for guests. They ran out of mashed potatoes and stuffing- totally RUINED my thanksgiving. I will never go back there again! What a joke!!
Great venue, exceptionally wide Thanksgiving dinner buffet served. For the price, I felt some red wine or chardonnay white would be in order, and that is all extra charge, but the champagne was high quality, so it wasn't a bad experience. I was surprised on Thanksgiving, the turkey was not in order; many opted for the seafood and salads first, then come later for the beef and turkey - when I got there, they were out of gravy and the new turkey they brought in was notably undercooked and unusable in the center. For the $275 price, I would think they could at least get this right. Overall, pretty good for a buffet, but next time when we are in the city on holiday, we will try a different buffet.
The Garden Court is an absolutely stunning room, the ambiance alone makes the Palace Hotel's Thanksgiving gala special. Unfortunately, this year's food selection was noticeably smaller than in previous years, and most dishes were cold. With my very restrictive diet, the lack of ingredient descriptions on the place cards made it difficult to know what was safe to eat, and none of the staff spoke English. When we were leaving, we were unexpectedly presented a bill for the $550 we had already paid and an additional 22% tip. For the price, the Palace should build in a tip and have staff capable of answering basic questions. Without the beauty of the Garden Court, the evening would not have justified the cost.
An incredible breakfast buffet - highlight of our annual staycation each year. Friendly staff and so much SF history at the hotel

Outstanding in every way! I had a reservation for 4 and wanted to add 2 and the lovely greeter accommodated us with a beautiful table. Everyone working in The Garden Court is so kind and easy going. The food was beyond delicious. Every detail was so well thought out. I was thinking how the founders of The Palace way back when would be so proud of the way the restaurant is still a shining beacon of excellence. I cannot wait to return!
The food was not great. Pretty average, yet so expensive. Ambiance is fantastic! Service, ok.
It was a lovely afternoon celebrating a belated birthday for our friend Shirley and 61 years of friendship for the 3 of us.❤️ Specially blended teas, deliciously crafted sandwiches and delectable desserts were presented by an attentive waiter. Thank you.
This was the first time I've had a tea service, and I have always wanted to go. However, it didn't really live up to my expectations. Our table was fine, but no one came by to get our order, and the food arrived before we ordered anything. I know these things are pre-made, as we could see the table of food in the back uncovered. It's possible the sandwiches wouldn't have been as dry if they hadn't been left out like that. The waiter was very apologetic and provided us with two glasses of champagne. She said it was for free, but the site said it was included. That said, the tea was amazing and the sweets were also delicious. The last piece that I'd say was a bit of a disappointment is that it was very crowded, with a conference that was happening next door. What I originally thought might be a more intimate and classy date turned out to be a loud tea service with subpar staffing and food.
The tour and lunch was fabulous! I'm so grateful to Michael, our tour guide. The knowledge and enthusiasm was made the tour even more exciting and "wow" factor. I was born and raised in San Francisco so this was a real treat. The beauty of this hotel is by far the best!!
