Very small portions and overpriced food. They recommend to order everything at once even if you don't know how big the portions are. Food was good/ okay but nothing was great. Wine on the contrary was pretty good even by the glass.
The Progress continues to be one of the best restaurants in SF, a place where the food is both delicious and actually fun, a rare balance to strike!
incredible flavors. loved the family style dining. relaxed servers. excellent service. amazing n/a drinks.
Delicious food and cocktails. Great ambiance. Perfect for taking out of town guests, special occasions or date night spot!
This was our second time going and both times the food and service have been amazing! From the wine menu to the appetizers to the entrees to even the options for tea (I love a good english breakfast with chocolate cake), everything is executed at the highest level. Great for celebrating special occasions or even just for a well deserved night out.
The best Michelin starred restaurant we've been to. It's pricey but I would say great value for the food. The servers went above and beyond for my wife's birthday.
Phenomenal service and food in a beautiful restaurant for an unforgettable meal. Every dish was a banger, and the chocolate cake was unreal. Can't wait to go back to visit State Bird!
Unique menu with a variety of interesting dishes and some real standouts; definitely ask the server for guidance in the amount of food to order, since portion sizes are not obvious from the menu.
Everything is perfect- delicious, creative food, super friendly service, ambience perfect...
The food was truly amazing—exceptional across the board and easily the highlight of the evening. Every dish was thoughtful, well-executed, and memorable. Clearly a very talented kitchen. We were grateful that the restaurant was able to accommodate us last minute and even let us in a bit early, which we genuinely appreciated. The ambiance was fine overall, though our corner table behind the bar and directly under a speaker made conversation more difficult than expected. Unfortunately, the service declined as the night went on. Our server disappeared midway through the meal and never returned. Another server and a busser kindly stepped in to help toward the end, but the experience felt disjointed. For my wife's birthday, two delicious drinks were dropped at the table with a lopsided candle and no explanation of what they were—then the server immediately left, which felt rushed and impersonal. I finished my glass of wine and wasn't offered a refill until well after the meal was over, following about 15 minutes of waiting before being acknowledged by the busser. To add to the confusion, we were presented with two separate checks by two different people. The table behind us appeared even more upset, suggesting this wasn't an isolated issue. Overall, a disappointing end to what was otherwise a wonderful meal. The food alone makes this place special, but the service inconsistencies unfortunately detracted from the experience.

We love The Progress and have made it a yearly tradition to come for dinner! We absolutely love the food, the ambiance and the mezzanine level is perfect for our team we can mingle around and eat! Can't wait to see you again next year! Thank you!
We had great communication with the staff, since we were arriving earlier to town we texted them to check if we could come in earlier. They were really accommodating and let us modify the reservation to an earlier time. The food was excellent, specially the duck. Probably the best duck I've ever had. Service was outstanding, the servers were on top of everything, from recommendations, to picking up empty plates and refilling our cups every time they were empty.
We had an okay experience at the progress. Our waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable. One small thing, I think it would’ve been good to know early on that we needed to order all plates together. I’m not accustomed to not being able to order more plates as the night goes on. We have dined at a few other very nice restaurants in SF but I think this was our first Michelin.
We loved the atmosphere; the music was a perfect vibe and volume, the decor was cool, everything was modern and pleasing to the eye. My only complaint is if you get seated in the table for 2 off to be left hand side, you are basically sitting with the next table beside you - tables are only 3 inches apart. The tables for 2 in the middle of the restaurant looked the best by far. It was uncomfortable to have another guest right next to you and in your ear the whole night.
Unfortunately the reason for my low rating is the food. We ordered the pear/kiwi salad, bok choy, and trout. While nothing was bad nothing stood out too much. The small plates were very pricey for what they were. The pear salad was tiny and covered in a sweet sauce and not refreshing like I hoped. The bok choy was also tiny for $24, it was good and I enjoyed the sauce but nothing life changing for the price. The trout was decent at the time of eating it. And finally the rosemary ice cream was one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had. Sadly my partner seemed to (?) develop food poisoning for 4 days following our dinner. Perhaps it’s not from the Progress but he had had very light meals the day of the progress of low risk foods like bread/yogurt/rice etc and the stomachache begun a few hours after dinner. I’m wary to complain or attach a serious complaint to any establishment so I don’t say this as final. All I can say is he can’t even think about the trout without feeling sick and unfortunately had a very bad few days following our visit. I did feel normal and we ate the same so again, not completely sure. Anyhow, we cannot go back there after this mysterious incident so unfortunately will never get to try the duck!

This is a 10 across the board! This restaurant is beautiful to the eye, the food is INCREDIBLE with an excellent wine selection that pairs easily with anything on the menu. The service was immaculate. This experience has been one of my favorites!

The scallop crudo and potato cloud caviar were exceptional!
We also had the noodles, bok choy, and duck, but those two were the standouts
