I really love this place. Taco tuesdays are great here.

People in other reviews seem to be bothered by the fact that the "no laptops" policy doesn't match the name and vibe and I'd agree. Maybe either have more nuance in the policy than "no laptops after 5" or change the name. Even at other bars that are not themed and named this way, they seem fine with me bringing in a laptop and chilling as long as I continue spending money.

I’m so glad I stumbled Into The Social Study. I was headed to see a show at The Fillmore but decided to find a bar first. The bartender, Matteo was really friendly and the whole vibe of the place was perfect before heading to the show. It really set the tone for the evening and I look forward to returning when I’m in the area.

Cool atmosphere. Bad latte. No laptops after 5pm and you call it a social study? Lol, get real. Laptops can be chill, ya’ll should be more chill with the rules and make some real cocktails and lattes. Waste of an amazing looking space!

Edit: well.. I would have stayed and helped keep the business afloat if you let me work for a few hours while ordering drinks. I specifically came out of my way to work here after coffee shops in the city have closed. You are missing a large opportunity and forcing patronizing customers to eat the difficulties instead of enforcing guests who don't pay to leave. I hope this information can help you better run your business and see the opportunity you are missing. Hope to see some change.

A small, cute cafe serving alcohol and coffee. The interior decorations were interesting. You can use your laptops on the table until 5pm, after that, you need to use the smaller tables with no outlets.

Get the purple rain! Super impressed by the bartenders working there. They hustle at the bar and handle the floor. Place has really cool vibes, excellent cocktails, and fair pricing. The music isn't too loud either which is great.

Awesome small business. Great place for a beer and a bite. The owner really cares about her place and the attention to detail and friendly service really show. The best hang out on my trip to sf.

I wanted to like this place but especially for a venue only open from 1-5pm for laptop use, the experience as a whole just fell below my expectations.

When I placed my order I waited over 15 minutes for something that was likely just scooped out from a pan, heated up, and came with a side of cream. This Strawberry Bread pudding tasted of mostly bread, lacked butter, possibly salt, made a barely noticeable custard, and the whipped topping served adjacent to it made it palatable considering I gassed $10 for it. Its more so as if they just forgot about me I dunno. The way the entire place is decked out in "Laptops prohibited after 5pm", the fact that all users were being shuttled out, the entire experience souring my liking of the joint instead of discouraging laptop use or better giving people a more relaxed cutoff, it felt extremely strict. Almost as a bad as having a strict parent taking away your device to go to bed.

My appetite spoiled at the price/quality of my bread pudding and the atmosphere so I took off at that 5pm cutoff.

I was so disappointed because this place has been on my list for so long. :( Thought this would be a great place to study because it’s quite literally in the name but they don’t allow laptops after 5pm.

Pros
- super cute environment
- honey latte was so yummy
- fair pricing, latte was $5.75

Cons
- they couldn’t do hot beverages even though they’re on the menu?
- not super friendly service, I had to ask to pay and they didn’t say thank you ( I did though :))
- no sign on the door that laptops aren’t allowed after 5pm. There was a tiny sign on the table, but was blocked until some people moved. The place was probably about 20% full so who cares?
- it smelled like cigarettes inside🚬
- ceiling had tiles and dust falling off of it

I wanted to like this place for various reasons: location, drinks, bites, music vibe, aesthetics and, of course, Prince on the wall! ? After today’s visit, I don’t know. The overall vibe today was, “why is this Black lady in here?” All while playing the music of mostly Black entertainers. I don’t understand. Yes, I was the only Black patron. ??‍♀️
