Its like you are hanging out in someone's grand house in their library or study! Great service and relaxed local neighborhood vibes right across from the legendary Fillmore. Espresso, beer, wine, lunch, snacks.

High energy community lounge with incredible bread pudding.

Stopped by to recharge before dinner nearby. We were dead on our feet from walking around the city all day and just needed a place to kill some time, and this spot happened to be right around the block. We grabbed a cider and the bread pudding. I might have just been highly vulnerable to a post-walking sugar rush, but that pudding was fantastic. Incredibly fluffy and essentially a giant, decadent slice of milk-soaked French toast.

The backstory of the space was also really cool. The owner, Harmony Fraga, built it as a tribute to her grandmother’s study, where her family used to congregate. It served as a community project to give this once-neglected neighborhood a vibrant space that transitions from a daytime spot into a lounge at night. She was actually manning the bar with her regulars while we were there, keeping the energy high.

If you’re looking for a super relaxed, quiet, zen vibe, this probably isn’t it. But even though we weren’t there to work or study, the lively hustle inside was oddly motivating, and the hospitality was incredibly warm despite the staff being absolutely slammed.

Nifty spot, quite small inside. The seats coming off the wall were unusable to me because the wall cushioning juts out so much

Cozy (brick walls, high ceiling), low-key, comfortable, dimly-lit bar/coffee house, reasonably priced, with a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful young bartender, that is open till 11pm(!) in The Fillmore. Mid-century films are beamed high up on one of the brick walls. The Social Study ceases serving coffee well before 11pm and they do not serve tea, so keep that in mind if a late night coffee is your goal. The bartender cheerfully served up hot lemon water in lieu of tea.

Cool spot for a late-night nibble with a friend or two! Not the biggest place so I wouldn’t recommend for a large group but maybe a group of 3-4 at most. I came here with high hopes to play games with my friend but not the best games selection tbh. Luckily I brought a deck of cards with me and we chose to play with those over any of the options there. This place would win so many more points if they stocked up on some better games! Also insider tip: bring 4 quarters to get 1 sticker out of the machine (pictured)! Food-wise… For my plant-based folks: if you’re looking for a hearty meal, I wouldn’t recommend this place but if you’re looking for smaller/lighter bites or just drinks, this place will still work for you. I got the veggie tacos and split a salad with my friend and they were good but not super filling. Luckily, there’s some dessert places nearby if you want to get something sweet afterwards (we went to Phillmore creamery and would recommend).

Cute café for reading or working in! I didn’t love their beverages, though.

A bit noisy, so not the best spot for studying. Table is small. Probably better suited for casual chats. Service was average.
