Edomasa is a great addition to the Jtown mall. If you're looking to eat about ten skewers, it's definitely the best option. I really enjoyed many of the meats they had: gizzard, smelt, karaage, etc. However, I wasn't as huge a fan of the salmon (plain) and scallop (overcooked). Hoping to check it out again soon!

I would have given a 5 star review because everything about this place except the price was incredible. Everything was juicy and delicious I would recommend but only if you have a lot of money because dang it was expensive. Service was quick and friendly. Incredibly attentive.

waited over 2 hours on the waiting list to be told that our party would not be seated before closing -- the host did not tell us until the last minute that we would not be seated.

Food and service was good! Enjoyed the experience... until I got hit with a surprise fee on the check. Was the tacky and political "SF mandate" really worth it?

Excellent service by the folks here at Edomasa. Especially the hostess who was so kind and gracious to show us to our seats even thought we were rushing back to the restaurant to check-in and barely made it. Parties were promptly seated and they are very efficient on service. Cozy interior with a bar vibe but I don't suggest bringing a group here as the place is small. Edomasa specializes in chicken and fully brings out the potential of this somewhat underrated piece of meat. Don't expect any beef or pork here. We got two different Lunch sets to try. You get to pick a side appetizer to go along with each one. The menu is simple with their lunch set options and drinks menu. Chicken yakitori plate: everything is tender, chicken stamina is my favorite and the tataki meatball with wasabi was juicy. Chicken teriyaki plate: I was so happy when the chicken came with the skin still on. It's not bland at all and isn't doused in thick sticky sauce, but is dressed in a light shoyu on a sizzling plate. Each plate on the menu comes with Paitan broth, rice, potato salad, and mixed greens. The broth is rich and creamy, not over-salted and you can just taste the natural umami from those chicken bones. I bet they cook their rice using this broth too because the rice has that same richness with some veggies sprinkled throughout. Portion sizes are deceiving because each set is perfect for one person. We were full at the end! I will come back for the other lunch plates too.

Everything tasted great. Kara age chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside. Paired well with draft beers. May be the AC a bit strong the skews were not enough temperature. Only the chicken heart skew had a bit more temperature since it was delivered to our table right away. It would be a five star if skews were hotter. Staff was friendly and clean modern interior.

Great addition to the mall and very solid yakitori. Wait was long but there’s enough to do around the restaurant, service was quick and friendly. We loved the meatball, chicken thigh with leek, mushrooms, chicken wing skewers, and karaage (which is usually average but was fantastic here). The salmon was good but a little plain.

If you're looking for a economical yakitori spot, then this place will make you happy. But part of the yakitori experience and flavor is that it's grilled on charcoal, and this place uses induction heat. It lacked the flavor of a good yakitori. In my opinion, Noren izakaya in north beach does a better job. Go to both just to see what I mean and I think you'll understand.

Decided to come here early on a weekend since I previously passed by it and saw a line. Got seated pretty quickly and for lunch, they only do set menus (so no a la carte). Decided to get the Yakitori Teishoku with agedashi tofu. While the meal might look small, it was definitely enough food for lunch. The server described the meats to you before they leave you to eat so you know exactly what you're eating. The MVP of this dish though would have to be the soup/broth. I don't know how long they simmered it but it was so flavorful that I wish I could take it to go. I love the black interior and I think it's really cool that the bar seating allows you to see them work in the kitchen--it definitely increases the anticipation for your food. Would definitely be interested in coming back for dinner.

Delicious Tokyo style yakitori tucked into a quiet corner of the Japantown mall, near Kinokuniya. The quality of ingredients (especially the chicken and veggies) is incredible. The staff are attentive and kind. Dinner was delicious! Lunch set was a great deal too.

Given today's high restaurant prices, the set menus are good value. They also have the benefit of higher turnover so the food is fresh and comes out at the right timing.

Best lunch in Japantown! Loved the lunch set, the Tori paitan was soooo umami! A little bite of everything, paired with a yuzu lager from Hitochino Nest. So full afterwards! My partner had the yasai set and he was really happy with all the veggies. Especially the mushroom Would definitely come back if I'm in the area

Disappointed as I have predicted. I didnt want to come here knowing the price and the line prior, but the way they do business is not right. I am not trying to compare this place with the yakitori in japan, but it is just so bad, that i dont know where to begin. First of all, coming here for lunch, with only set menus available, I cant order single or multiple alacarte menus. Therefore if i order the 4 skewers set i will definitely need to eat another lunch next door again. Or I will have to ordet 2 sets. So i ordered their Teriyaki chicken set. And here comes the disappointment. What makes a yakitori place special and good is because of the breed of the chicken the restaurant uses and the skillfulness and timing to grill the chicken. This is American breed chicken, KFC level (maybe not that bad), but this is not japanese nor Asian breed or even free range chicken...... Even though lunch is not pricy like dinner menu, but i felt like i am scammed. At least tell the customer you are only using the name Edomasa but not same quality of chicken.... There are very few good yakitori places in the US major cities due to the breed of chicken the restaurant uses, but definitely not this one. Super disappointed.

There is no wait which is good. The menu is pretty limited. The rice comes in the set menu is mushy and mixed with some undercooked rice. For yakitori, chicken hart and chicken gizzards have no flavors, negima is ok. The highlight will be hotate and chicken tail.
