I am so sad that I did not get to say good bye before they closed. I saw the announcement too late. This was my go to place for comfort food and when ever I could not figure out what to do for dinner. :( I wonder what they are doing next! Anyone know?

I'm saddened to have just learned that Yan Yan Seafood Restaurant is FINALLY closing its door after 24 years serving Sam Francisco Sunset district. Despite living in the South Bay, whenever I get a chance I'd drive the 40 miles to go to Yan Yan for their delicious & sumptuous clay pots, from lamb, to beef brisket to ox tails simmering in piping hot clay pots, OMG! In addition to their regular huge menus items, I ALWAYS look at the special handwritten menus posted on the walls, often with special discounted prices. And you also can get package deal - not sure if COVID has made it impossible for them to continually do so, but to make my drives worth it, I need to get enough dishes for 2-3 days worth of meals It's rather sad that it's closing falling victims to COVID lockdowns where small businesses like Yan Yan simply couldn't cope with. For those of you living nearby, I'd go there before it's too late. The clay pot dishes, you can't go wrong with it!

Thanks for all the great memories! My family has been dining there for family gatherings and celebrations since they opened in the 90s. Wish I knew they were closing at the end of February so that we could have gone once more. Best wishes and good luck!

Yan Yan, today(2/28/22022), will be a sad day, to all your customers. Thank you for all the cooking you have made for us, all these years. Your restaurant, will be sorely missed.

Thanks Yan Yan for all the years of great food. It was incredible seeing the number of customers come by today.

Sad to see them go, hopefully they reopen eventually. Food was good for price and they gave extremely generous portions. As many has stated, often times it's so loaded that you wouldn't be able to close the box.

Wow! Great restaurant I just discovered too late because it is closing at the end of February 2022 which I learned from a Facebook Group and then doubled check with the owner that due to loss of business because of COVID-19 she has no choice but to close at end of the month. So if you are able to help local restaurant to support her because she has no idea what she plans to do when restaurant closes. This place really is famous for huge portions that your eyes will pop out when you order for example anything. Like the ying yang ribs that the portion so large it barely fits the box and has to be held together with a rubber band!! I ordered ying yang ribs which is one dish that is cooked 2 different ways, one is sweet and sour pork and other one is also deep fried and remains crunchy. Next dish I ordered was dry Cantonese pork chow fun and Claypot cod with tofu. All excellent and yummy in my tummy that will feed me for days! Love this place and I will sorely miss it. I like the sweet red bean dessert she threw in. :)

Portions are insultingly large. The box doesn't close. If you order for pick up, lady boss will throw in dessert. If you pay by credit card, don't even try to tip, lady boss will just ask you to order from them again. I'm so glad Yan Yan survived the pandemic. Definitely best bang for the buck and flavors are for the most part

I have been absent from Yan Yan for a couple of years. I decided to re-visit one of my "go-to" places and ordered my "usual". I went online to view the menu and order four dishes for take-out (there's no on-site dining at this time), totaling about $55. When I went there to pick up my order, I was surprised the tab was $75. I confirmed my order and was informed by the "boss lady" that the prices have gone up, but neither the printed menu or the website prices are current. Just be mindful when you order.

Great food, huge quantity for the pricing. Ask for your total price before you show up so you won't be surprised like other users. There's a slight markup paying with credit card so if you pay with cash it's slightly cheaper. Simply let her know if you pay with cash or credit card. We love the egg white fried rice, salt and pepper fish fillet, salt and pepper spare ribs, mustard greens.

The food is pretty good, but it isn't so appetizing if you feel that you've been gouged! if you order from the menu linked to this Yelp page, the prices are waaaaay off! Our order was $30 more! when I brought that up to the "boss lady", she said that the menu on Yelp was not her doing & she has no way to change it. True, or not, I don't know, but even the prices from her paper menu that she gave to me is $20 less than what I paid! As another yelper warned, she charges more if you're charging it, so be aware! I heard that she will not be opening back up For dine-in because she is making more money by doing take-out only...less employees & no permanent, correct menu.

My family's favorite Cantonese restaurant (since I was a kid) in Chinatown turned into a wine bar, we never thought we'd find anything comparable. My cousin ran across Yan Yan's when she lived around the corner. They are super nice, and the food is the closest to my childhood comfort food that we've found. We picked up a big order from them since this is the first time in over a year the family has been able to get together now that we're all vaccinated!Walnut prawns: not too much sauce, good sized prawns, we ordered two and it went immediately. Black bean clams: such good sauce, and the clams aren't tiny like some places. Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce: cooked to just the right texture, I liked the oyster sauce being on the side cause sometimes it gets a little overpowering. Salt and pepper pork spare ribs: So good! They were crunchy with just the right amount of flavor. Good portions on everything (and giant portions on many things)We recently moved out of town, but will definitely come back when we can.

Ordered takeout from here awhile ago. Got the special soy sauce noodles and the Peking spareribs & salt and pepper spareribs combo. Everything was very delicious and portions were very big, two dishes shared among four people and still had leftovers! The owners were very nice as well. I highly recommend this place!
