Authentic Shanghai style home cooking. Ingredients are used to fit real local Shanghanese taste. Serving both a la carte dishes and Shanghai refreshments. It is a rare finding to refresh Shanghai alley memory.
WangJia Restaurant is a family-owned establishment offering delicious and fresh Shanghainese cuisine. Popular dishes include smoked fish, eel in brown sauce, Shanghai ribs, fried buns, and XLBs (soup dumplings). The restaurant also offers unique dishes like shutter braise in soy sauce meat, pickled watercress, and sliced beef in hot chili oil. A hearty soup, Shanghai salty pork soup, is also available.
The restaurant is located in a space with black and white photos of old Shanghai, creating a classy and authentic atmosphere. Diners can enjoy beautifully cooked Shanghainese dishes, such as the Shanghai Stewed Pork and Squid with Tea Tree Mushroom, served in a classy clay vessel. The pork is super tender with a little fat on the edges, and the pork and squid complement each other well through the long braising with sweet, savory, and ginger flavors. The tea tree mushroom adds a nice texture to the dish.
Service is attentive, and while parking can be a bit tight, the restaurant is worth visiting for its specialized dishes and authentic Shanghai-style home cooking. Ingredients are carefully selected to fit the real local Shanghanese taste, making it a rare find to refresh the Shanghai alley memory.
