Was the best sushi place around! The employees were always super kind and helpful, very welcoming restaurant. I miss going there and eating their salmon avocado roll, rainbow roll, dragon roll, their house salad and sauce was amazing as well as their miso soup!! Everytime I've eaten there or ordered delivery from them I was never disappointed. Leaving this review because I tried getting sushi from somewhere else and it's just... not the same Praying AJ's makes its comeback, truly a hidden gem of San Jose and I absolutely miss it!

This place was great but is out of business. A new Japanese restaurant is there now.

Now that AJ's kitchen is closed I can finally leave my review. We got takeout from AJ's in 2020. Wanted to support small businesses during the lockdown and I love sushi. It was my first and only time having food from here. It was hands down the worst sushi I've ever had. Who knew simple rolls could be made so terribly...but they were. Rice wasn't right, didn't taste fresh overall. Everything about it was so off the mark, just bad and honestly disgusting. I really hate wasting food and I cringed at the thought of finishing my meal. I also got the miso black cod bento box. I've had so many miso black cods from many different places...this was the worst miso black cod....it was so insanely salty I couldn't even finish it. Black cod is my favorite fish and this place did not do that delicious fish justice at all. I think that everyone has a special talent for something. Not every person can excel at certain jobs. Just as how whoever made our meal that night should probably never cook in a restaurant or make sushi to sell ever again. Make it at home for friends and family? Sure. But to paying customers? No. Never again did we go back to AJ's. Never again.

AJ's was my and my friends' favorite sushi spot to get together at. They had delicious sushi, such kind staff, and great prices. It hasn't been open for a while now. We hope it's only temporarily closed. Seriously - what an amazing spot and great food. We hope you reopen or come back soon!

It has been closed and will be changed to Miyuki Japanese Restaurant which is a sister company of Miyakko Japanese Restaurant located on 664 blossom hill rd

I would give them 5 stars but unfortunately they are slightly over priced and their portions are extremely small. Their rolls could be at least 25% bigger and their bento boxes need to have more food inside them. Other places for cheaper have better value.

Back again! The sushi hit the spot after work! The unagi was a little too sweet and the miso soup was okay. The combo was a good portion

Ill let the photos speak 1000 words.. The roll is all rice and sauce. Wheres the fish!? The sashimi was old and stale. I honestly can't believe I spent $80 here. They are honestly scamming there customers.

I bought my wife take out from here last night. I spent $52 on two rolls, two orders of nigiri and one hand roll. One roll was the Peach Blossom and the other was the Crazy Hamachi. First, let me say that I grew up around here and it saddens me to knock any hard working restaurant down. However, it is simply not right what we were served. As you can see from the photos we were served paper thin pieces of salmon in the Peach Blossom. You can literally see right through the slices. The Crazy Hamachi had pieces of Hamachi that were ridiculously hard to find and difficult to taste. I didn't even know Hamachi was in it until my wife told me. Out of respect, I won't comment on the other items. This is not right on many levels including the fact that Wayne, the owner, writes that he is passionate about Japanese food. No chef of Japanese food or person passionate about Japanese culture would allow this type of quality to pass. They are known for the highest standards. Last, let me say that this was take out for my wife's birthday. As you can imagine, she was incredibly disappointed. Wayne, how will you make this right?

I always say I found the best sushi House but last night we did. The food was very good, the price was very reasonable. The service was very nice and we were served very quickly. The portions are large and we will definitely come back. We will recommend our friends and family here.

Quiet night, not many people. Quick service and simple menus. Bathrooms are super roomy and clean, with double locks for extra privacy-- but only single restrooms. Ordered about 7 items. They give complimenary miso soup and salads!

Everything about this place was simply amazing. Ana, our host treated us like family. Made us and our 2 year old feel Right at home. The food, 5 stars!! Will definitely be back. Mind you we live and hour away but will not think twice about coming back! Thank you!

I have wanted this Restaurant to do while since they've opened, they have been hit and miss with food and service. Last night was the final time we eat at Aj's! We ordered door dash. A large portion of our order was missing, we are a family of 5 plus my sister. I understand large orders can be confusing. With alot of finger pointing between DoorDash and AJs I went out to pick up the remainder of my order. After doing so we were still missing 5 orders of sushi. This issue should have been dealt with between door dash and ajs but AJS refused to fulfill the order. By the time we dealt with all the confusion it was too late to order from anywhere else. We were Patient and this was such an easy solution.

Summary: Very long wait times for mediocre sushi. You're better off getting the same quality sushi from a different establishment for much faster wait times. My younger brother went here with some of our cousins a couple of weeks ago and recommended the place to us. He said that it was fairly decent, however did mention that the wait times were absurd. Nonetheless, my parents wanted to try it out since my brother is probably one of the pickiest eaters out there. For him to recommend a place to us, well that's not something that happens every day... When we arrived, we were almost seated immediately. We placed our order within 5 minutes. Of course, my brother was right about the wait times. I think we had to wait for about 45 minutes until we got our food, which is ridiculous. The staff members were also processing Doordash orders simultaneously. I'm guessing it's a way better option than having to wait this long for sushi. When the food finally did come out, it was very mediocre overall. Nothing too crazy. For waiting this long, I would at least hope that the food would be worth it. However, it wasn't. You can go to pretty much any other sushi restaurant and get the same quality sushi. So if you want to try this place out, be like everyone else and Doordash. The wait is not worth it.
