Bought Bun mam to-go and I detected live maggots in the box.

Come try a bowl of Bun Rieu loaded with high concentrations of MSG—bột ngọt—and find out how your body really feels afterward. Just a heads-up: you might walk out of the restaurant feeling fatigue.

Delicious food. We tried a few dishes here. Aside from Bun Mam which is quite under flavor for this dish, the others were good enough. Their drinks and sweet desserts were also really tasty. I tried their sweet desserts one, Mung Bean (I think). It was sweet enough (not too sweet) to be refreshing during a hot day. My husband also said their Sam Bo Luong was good.
I had bún riêu here and it was pretty mediocre at best, a bit too salty and isn't that flavorful. And for $18 for that, you might as well go next door to bánh cuốn ông tạ restaurant and have this there for $3 less and taste even better.
I was craving Bun Rieu and drove from Berkeley to SJ, since it’s basically little Vietnam there. Went here on a whim and got the Canh Bun. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? It just didn’t hit? Everything seemed old and not fresh. Barely crab, mostly shrimp, noodles were old and also not very much. I love a thick noodle.
Maybe it was an off day? I am not going back sadly.
Had high expectations coming here since Bun Rieu is their specialty. Unfortunately, the Bun Rieu was so bad, I could only eat half the bowl. Broth should be rich with flavor, but it was light and just salty. There was no hint of crab flavor, the tomatoes and ground pork chunks didn’t really enhance the soup. Also vermicelli noodles were much thinner than expected. Such a disappointment. There are Pho places that do a better job of Bun Rieu than here.
Not many places to get banh canh cua around here, well not many good ones at least. If you know of a better spot please let me know. If you come here on weekdays it’s usually not as packed and at night there’s plenty of seating. I got the banh canh cua and it came out pretty fast, keep in mind that it’s the winter season so this place hits harder because it warms up your stomach. Go light on the chili peppers if you’re not good at eating spicy. I can hold my own but after adding 2 spoons, I was hurting with every bite but at the same time loving the flavors. This place is spacious and has a big mural on the wall and a few TVs, I like it. It gives you the vn vibe. Park for this place can be a pain so you’ll have to park on the sides and walk to here.
Authentic bun rieu, taste real good

This rating is mainly based on the taste of their bun rieu. It was not good and obviously not what was expected considering the name of the restaurant has 'bun rieu' on there. I'll stick to eating bun rieu at home

This is more of a critique of the menu rather than food. For every menu item, there is a photo of a meal lined up perfectly next to it; only every photo is random and is not representative of the item it is placed next to. Every item we ordered came out as something totally different, at which point the server and owner(?) argued about the menu in front of my father and I.
The food was fine, not great but decent, but the menu is preposterous. If you're not familiar with the dishes being served, just choose at random.

Bánh Canh Cua (Vietnamese Crab Tapioca Noodle Soup) was very good. Broth was thick but not too thick. Noodles could have been a little chewier but they were fine. Pork was fatty and good. You only get 1 shrimp but it was a decent size. As for crab, you get 1 leg section and a small pile of lump.
Spring rolls were fine. Snail sausage was pretty light on snails; wouldn't get that again but it didn't taste bad or anything.
They also had my favorite drink, passion fruit juice. It was sourer and less sweet than Lee's Sandwiches (a good thing in my book).
Despite a language barrier they managed to get our entire order correct.
They don't seem to have enough sweet and hot sauce containers for every table. They kept stealing them from one table and giving them to another table.
Hole-in-the-wall atmosphere but looked relatively clean. Smells a little like an aquarium store because of all the fresh seafood.
The mall can be a bit crowded so it's hard to find parking. I also wish they were open later and the lot wasn't so full of smokers who have the time to stand out there and smoke for hours.
