So sad they have closed I think?? We ordered the special bento box with sashimi, teriyaki chicken, soup, salad, rice and this delicious cold tofu! The special $5 unfiltered sake was pretty tasty and strong.

Tsugaru was a nice spot for an inexpensive and good quality lunch in Japantown. The interior is a bit dated but that was okay. I had a bento with spicy pork, tempura, rice, salad, and miso soup. I had hot green tea as well. I thought the pork was flavorful but not spicy. It was tasty though! I enjoyed the tempura too. The batter was light and simple with a variety of vegetables. The rice, miso soppy, and a salad were fine. Service was good too. Sadly, I heard from the San Jose Mercury News that it will be closing at the end of July. I'm glad that I got to visit before it closes.

The food was good. Service was slow. Apparently they are closing at the end of the month. It is family friendly and has far pricing. .

I heard it was closing at the end of the month so I wanted to try them before that.It is in a old historical building in Japantown on Jackson Street.Inside you see lots of nice Japanese decor like dolls, paintings, rice bag(?) and a sushi bar.it has a nice local feel to it.They have lunch specials of several sizes, including bento boxes.I had the special with the salmon teriyaki with california roll, salad and rice. The salmon was cooked just right and was juicy and flavorful. The sauce went well with the salmon. The salad had a cirtrusy dressing.Miso is also included and it was good but didn't have seaweed in it.Overall a good meal.Sorry to see it close!

My family has been coming here for the past 10 years. The staff is always so friendly and at this point, knows us and always asks where a family member is if they are not with us at dinner. This is also how things are in the Japan town community. The fish is fresh and the soup is delicious. It's always a must go when I visit my family in San Jose

One of my top spots for japanese food. Came in on a Weds. Looking forward to returning with my friends. It has a nice atmosphere. Feeling here is like a restaurant in Fort Worth I liked.

One of my fav locations for tasty Japanese food. The service was very sociable and kind. The bill was reasonable I would say.

Casual Japanese sushi place. Wonderful flavors and great tea. They have a lot of tasty roll combinations, but you will not find high end fish cuts like toro here.

Modest interior, excellent sushi, great service. Good place for lunch or dinner if you like Japanese cuisine.

Great family run restaurant. Chicken teriyaki was amazing, everything that was on the table tasted good.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh sushi. The salmon was truly like 'butta'. We tried the tempura shrimp and veggies appetizer and the shrimp were so fresh, even though fried. Staff was very friendly! We will definitely be back!

Solid spot in Japantown. They make a great Bento box which gives you major bang for your buck. The sushi is fine, and the sashimi is fine too. All the staff are nice, and the place is old but clean. Sadly it can't compare to Sushi Tomi or Satsuma in Mountain View, but it's good.

The sushi was just okay here. Nothing spectacular. I was not super impressed with this place, primarily because of the service. The restaurant was fairly busy and only two servers appeared to be working, so it could be chalked up to that. We waited a fair amount of time to get our food and the servers kept glancing at us as if just remembering we were there. If you're looking for sushi in the Japantown area, you can probably do better.

Fresh ingredients. Generous portions. Great variety of rolls. I just wish there were more sashimi options. But overall a nice experience.
