I was so happy to have found this hidden gem! I travel for work and I was craving sushi. So I initially was going to get sushi at the restaurant next door. Something told me to keep walking down the street to see if there was anything better. Then I saw Hukilau and my Hawaiian heart said “OH absolutely”. Food was good. The mahi mahi grilled was delicious! I would get it again. The French fries were very plain and boring so I'd get something different next time.

Hukilau offers delicious meals with generous portions at a great value. The spicy chicken katsu and fried oysters are flavorful, though some prefer the classic katsu sauce. The loco moco is a standout, with a well-seasoned patty and a perfectly cooked over-easy egg. The place loves to spread the Aloha, and the friendly staff makes sure guests feel welcomed. The garlic chicken was on point and made a great late-night snack. The first-time visitors enjoyed the nice atmosphere, with options to sit in the front or back of the restaurant. They ordered a variety of dishes, including short rib, sesame chicken, fried shrimp, fried oysters, and the combo plate with loco moco and chicken katsu. The fried shrimp and oysters come with rice and Mac salad, and while they are breaded and fried simply, the tartar sauce adds a nice touch. The short ribs and garlic fries were especially delicious and are highly recommended for future visits. Drinks are available, with some being pricey but worth it for the decent alcohol content.
